OK, it's been some time since I used Corel in this manner, Brandon, but as I
recall the precision of the Viewres sysvar (as suggested by another party) will
control the number of "nodes" in Corel. These in turn affect the smoothness of
the curved lines in Corel.
To get the curves to appear to their best advantage, I found that using the Node
Edit function in Corel itself worked the best. Oft times it was also necessary
to change the type of Node from Cusp to Smooth in oder to get a smooth
transition through the point or node on the curve.

AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT script is *not* a substitute for AutoLISP. AutoLISP is a
programing "language" whereas script files are merely, and I use the term merely
not in a purjorative sense here, they are merely lists of commands that can be
passed to the Command: line for execution in the same manner as if they were
entered at the keyboard.
The difference is in the ability, using AutoLISP, to pause for user input,
create decision making routines and the other aspects of a programming language
which are lacking with the use of scripts.
A great deal can be done using scripts but they are no substitute for AutoLISP
applications. If your dealer or whoever sold you LT made other claims, you
deserve your money refunded. There is no support for AutoLISP in LT.

There are two methods for continuing a dimension string that I'm aware of.
First, once a dimension string is begun, if you enter "cont" at the Dim: command
prompt, you will get a prompt for the second dimension extension line location,
and after selecting it Acad will display the dimension it calculates and wait
for either user input or a return to accept the default.
The second is dimcontinue, is not a dimension editor command but rather a
Command: option. It merely asks for the second dimension extension and posts the
results without further fan fare. _Dimcontinue is aliased in my (default)
acad.pgp file as dimcont as well.
I don't think it's a bug rather a handy feature.

Subject: Re: Questions about solid modeling in AutoCAD r13c4a

aa753@torfree.net (Jacek Pakula) wrote:
>Hi, I have several questions about AutoCAD release 13c4a:
>1. What is the new command replacing SOLWIRE/SOLMESH ?
There is none. AutoCAD generates the hidden line tesselation on the fly. There
is no way to preserve this tesselation model (currently) other than exporting it
to a 3DStudio file (3DSOUT) and importing it back in (3DSIN). The model is
displayed in wire frame at all times. HIDE, SHADE, and RENDER all use the
temporary tesselation information.
>2. What is the new command/variable replacing SOLWDENS?
FACETRES sets the density of tesselation lines for HIDE, RENDER and SHADEd
views. ISOLINES displays the number of surface definition lines, called ISOLINES
in wireframe view.
>3. What is the difference between SURTAB1/SURFTAB2 and SURFU/SURFV?
SURFTAB1 and SURFTAB 2 are both defined on pp 554 and 736 of the R13 Command
Reference manual
>4. What are ISOLINES and FACETRES variables?
See above. Also refer to the online help file under "Help" on the pulldown menu
bar.
>5. Is there a way to increase surface density of solids?
All solids are of unit mass and volume. If you're refering to the degree of
tesselation of the surface representation in hidden line views, you need to use
the FACETRES system variable. The maximum value for this sysvar is 10. There is
no way I know of to override this maximum nor would I want to. At the maximum
value you will generate huge files that are tesselated far more than is
necessary for ordinary surface representation. It would be better, in my
opinion, to chose a lower value and specify "Smoothing" for thos surfaces which
you want to appear as continuous curved surfaces. Mass quantities of tesselation
is not the best solution.
> .....(I'd like to have very-hi-density
>wire-frame models of the solids in 3D Studio.)
You must have *some* kind of computer!
>6. How do I use SOLDRAW, SOLVIEW and SOLPROF? What are those?
They are for generating 2D representations of 3D solid models. They are
documented better than I could do here.
>7. Why are SOLDRAW, SOLVIEW and SOLPROF not shown in the AutoCAD Quick
>Reference (for windows) by Ralph Grabowski?
They were added in order to restore some of the functionality of creating the 2D
representations that were possible in R12/AME.
>8. Supposedly all the SOL commands were dropped from release 13, why are
>there exceptions?
If you throw a cat out the car window does it become kitty litter? Some things
that software publishers do just defy understanding. That these examples were
tacked on at a later date suggests (to me) they were an after thought. But since
we already have a "View" command, we obviously couldn't drop SOL from SOLVIEW.
As for the rest, it's anyones guess, I guess.
You can, and will I suspect, get plenty of replies to your questions, but I
suggest for a more immediate sense of gratification you consult the
documentation. Most of your questions were answered both in the hard copy and
the online version.

Our program RUN LISP includes (among many others) a program to batch
convert R13 to R12 so your client wouldn't need to do all those
conversion manually.

Well, DOS-versions 12 and 13 works fine, if there is added a
memory-manager for Windows for that. That happens to come with with
AutoCAD (ie. Pharlap.386).
There are basically two things which are "problems":
	1) memory manager. -->install [386Enh] section Pharlap.386 driver
	2) video-card drivers. Only solution is to try out with different
drivers...
I once wrote those things down for the AutoCAD DOS 12, but they are
exactly same for r.13
Here is the URL for that text.
http://www.mpoli.fi/~js/acad/pharlap.txt
Ouch, there are always someone, who wants to start DOS-autocad without
batch-file. It want work, unless SET-statements are on the
Autoexec-file. They SHOULD be on the batch-file.
That way DOS-autocad works fine.
NO need to boot to DOS, works with multitasking and ALT-TAB switching,
etc.

How about using an 'intellegint' viewer which has a MS Access database
incorporated into the application? AutoMate's CadmanView ULTRA will view,
print and plot all your various files as well as allows you to search for them
via common information contained in it's database.
Ultra can be configured with multiple options. So, you can define each
departments needs easily. Download a demo of Ultra from our home page at
www.cadmandu.com. For additional information, call 847-676-4636

Subject: Error: Scandr30 Helpppp!
From: "Jon Kerr"

We have the following error. It occurs when we try to edit a hatched area
on a drawing. If you try to Move, Erase, Rotate etc the hatching then the
error occurs and you are unceremoniously thrown out of Autocad 13. This
happens on both computers using seperate copies of Autocad
We did get rid of it (temporarily) by blocking it out of the drawing and
then purging.
I have attached a dwg file with this hatching in it (we deleted everything
else) if anyone is interested.
If you can help, I would be most grateful.

Subject: TIFF File Formats
From: jbdufner@aol.com
Date: 11 Nov 1996 14:57:52 GMT
Howdy,
I use a scanning application that scans files into TIFF formats. I
can use Group 3, Group 4, and Uncompressed types of TIFF's. The problem
is that AutoCAD R13 for NT does not import them correctly. It imports an
object because I can list it but you can't see it at all. Anybody have any
knowledge about this because I have tried every combination of TIFF and
they do not show up? Please let me know if you have any ideas.

From: "Jim Lakes"

Thanks to everybody who helped with my last obstacle. Everything works
great!
How about some more help?
I want to insert a text file (*.txt) into my drawing that contains 300
lines of text. I need to make sure that each line of text does not exceed
80 characters and when line 100 gets inserted, lines 101 to 200 get pushed
over to another column, then lines 201 to 300 get pushed to another column.
This is what I have so far. As you can see, I get the text to come in, but
it stays in one column.
(defun c:book ()
;(setq x (list a b))
(setq a 2.25) ;This is where I want it to start.

(setq b (- b 0.2)) ;this puts the spacing between lines.

I recently started using Mechanical Desktop 1.1 at work. It works good but
I haven't been able to figure out the best way to draw threaded components.
For internal threads you can specify threading options when using the hole
feature. I really don't know what to do for external threads. Since this
is very common in our business, I'm in trouble.
I would like to here how others are doing this before I develop bad habits

Subject: Re: Spell check "Add" button problem!
From: adrianjl@aol.com
Date: 11 Nov 1996 16:05:51 GMT
Darrell,
If the "Add" buttion is greyed out that means that you haven't specified
the custom dictionary to write words you add. When in the spell command,
click on "Change Dictionaries", then under "Custom Dictionary" type in the
name of your custom dictionary, which is a *.cus file. Now you have
created a place to write your words to, and the "Add" button should not be
greyed out. You can create different dictionaries, by using this method.
Hope this helps,

Subject: Calcomp DB III & menu
From: "Charles Meredith, Jr."
Date: Mon, 11 Nov 1996 21:52:24 -0800
I have a user who just started using R13c4 DOS. He was setting up his
digitizer(Calcomp Drawing Board III)and got to Menu Area 4. He selected
his three points and then got this message "The points selected do not
form a 90 degree angle." Well, we tried again(being more precise), same
thing.
I DL'ed the lastest drivers from Calcomp and got the same message. The
exact same setup worked fine in R12.
Someone on CIS suggested moving slightly from the target point. I think,
all the times we have tried, we've already done this.
Any other ideas?

Under 95 I found a "work around". It's not very practical though. If
you do NOT select the WinTab driver for your digitizer and you select
"System Pointer". This problem will go away.
However, you cannot use your tablet as a tablet anymore. You can only
use it as a mouse. I have talked with Summagraphics about this and
they stated it is an Autodesk problem. So now we are try to talk to
Autodesk about it.
I will keep you informed. Let me know if this fix does solve your
problem.

Hi Venkatesh,
There are indeed some good Add-ons for AutoCAD which can be used to do
Piping Work for details you try to locate a suitable one for yourself
from the `Authorised Developers' section of Autodesk's Website
" http://www.autodesk.com "
or look into AutoCAD Resourse Guide, where all such add-ons are listed
with their approximate prices and developers addresses.

Dan,
You have to configure the AutoCAD R12 DOS for the mouse you are working
with, using CONFIG command at command prompt.
1)Type config command at command line.
2)Then select Configure Digitizer(option 4).
3)Then select the required driver from available digitizer list.
4)Save the changes before quiting configuration.
Now you should not face problem while running your mouse in AutoCAD R12.

Hi Mario,
Have you tried the SOLVIEW, SOLDRAW and SOLPROF commands, these commands
work in Paper Space mode and enable the user to create automatically
the Orthographic,Sectional or Auxiliary Views of the 3D-Solid model.
You can look in for futher details of using these command either in
AutoCAD Manuals or in Autodesk's white papers;
Title: Solids.arx, Solview, Soldraw,Solprof Tutorial
Document No. 735.
at Autodesk Homepage " http://www.autodesk.com "
But a 3D model cannot be created by simply compiling together 2D drawings
(captures) of different views using general AutoCAD commands.

Check for any Viruses in your machine. Run "CHKDSK/F" at the DOS prompt

You can use SOLID command to create a solid in an given area and also
use DDMODIFY or CHANGE command to asign the required colour to the solid.
This will make a full colour area in a drawing without increasing the

This version of Borland C++ was not tested with Release 12, but will
probably work. The problem may be because you're in C++ using C calling
convention. You may try to enclose the ADS #include statements with an
extern "C" declaration. Something like:
extern "C" {
#include "ads.h"
#include "adcode.h"
#inclide "adslib.h"
}

For fixing this problem of READ ONLY files you have to set the value of
system variable `DWGWRITE' to 1. And now when you open any drawing it

Hi Al Byers,
In order to get a .GIF format image from AutoCAD you have to RENDER a
3D object made in AutoCAD first and then save that rendered image in
*.GIF format using SAVEIMG command. Now you can open this *.GIF file
in any application you want.
You can also save the rendered image in AutoCAD using the same command
in other formats like .TGA,.TIFF,.RND if required.
[Note:To create a simple 3D model you can draw any closed figure using
PLINE command and then giving that figure a thickness using CHPROP
command and selecting the figure at select object prompt and typing
`T' at change property prompt and giving any numeric no. say 5 at
New value prompt. Then change the view point using VPOINT command
and giving 1,1,1 at view point. Then rendering the Object using RENDER
command].

You are right the Geometric Tolerances in AutoCAD R13C4 comes in full
scale irrespective of DIMSCALE setting and if you want to adjust the size
of the tolerance block in your drawing you have to do it by scaling the

Hi Mike,
You tell your client to use `SAVER12DWG' option from FILE Pop-down menu
to save drawing made in AutoCAD R13 as AutoCAD R12 format for you.
The files saved using this command can be easily opened in R12 but some
of the R13 objects (like ellipse, spline,Mline etc.) will loose their
properties and will be converted into R12 equivalent entities (like lines,
arcs etc) but there will be no loss of any part of drawing.

This is a relatively simple operation though the ARX API (uh, if it is
appropriate to call any ARX app "simple" :-). One could access the
'actualWidth()' and 'actualHeight()' member functions of the AcDbMText
object, or develop your own 'BoxedText' object (either derived from
AcDbMtext or containing an AcDbMText object).
Unfortunately, the actual width and height information is not
available through LISP. Mike Dickason has provided a 'MTEXTBOX' ARX
application (available on CompuServe, or I can email a few copies)
which will provide the extents of MText objects to LISP programmers.

I had a similar problem with my Hitachi.  A few things to try;
1. Unplug the digitizer and power it back up. (cold boot for digitizer)
2. If the digitizer stores the current configuration, the cold boot might not work.
There may be a software program you can run to reset it to the normal CalComp mode. I have not
had this happen with a CalComp but it's worth mentioning in case nothing else works.
3. Make sure that AutoCAD didn't move the pick button from it's normal position.
Cheers,
Lu

Subject: 3D Drill bit
From: adrianjl@aol.com
Date: 11 Nov 1996 19:36:26 GMT
I'm kind of crazy when it comes to detail, and I need some help here. I
want to draw a 3D drill bit in R13, but I am not quite sure how to do it.
I had seen a lisp routine that will allow you to creat a 3d spiral, and I
was thinking about extruding some shape along that path. I don't know if
that will work. First of all I don't have that lisp routine, so If any of
you guys have it, please let me know. Also If you have suggestions how to
do this please let me know.

This is a knows problem inside of Mechanical Desktop. Sadly there is
no work around for this.
Just in case you didn't know, if you are in the middle of a mcad
command, you can dynamically pan and zoom by pressing 'P' or 'Z'
respecivly. This isn't as good as the control inside the modeling
modem but it's a resonable work around.

I've seen a press release on the AutoCAD www site, that says, a AutoCAD R13
for Windows NT 4.0 is available. We are currently using R13c4a. Are there
any differences to this version ? When yes, what is the difference ?

Subject: CAD: Quality, Productivity and Savings

CAD: Quality, Productivity and Savings
I am interested in studies, comments, and ideas on what kind of
increase in productivity (if any) is achieved by using CAD and whether
such an increase in productivity results in any savings.
The last time that I checked, the common belief was that CAD was
contributing to an improvement in quality (one way of measuring
productivity) but not in terms of saving manpower (the bottom line for
many observers).
As I have never really seen any study on the subject, I do not know
how widespread is such analysis and - much less - whether it is
actually the case.
Any information or comments would be greatly appreciated. If you have
the time, please elaborate.
Thanks.
