I have an HP DeskJet 600c. In my AutoCad r13 (Windows NT) configuration
I selected the plotter option: "Hewlett-Packard (PCL) PaintJet/DeskJet
ADI 4.2 - by Autodesk, Inc" followed by the option for a DeskJet 500
series (or something like that).
This works for me. I would imagine that the 660c would also work with
this ... although it may be different with a DOS or Win 95 setup.

Nathen, if you can copy one of the blocks (hopefully they're all the same)
explode it, change the text
and re-block it using the same name, and insertion point.

Could you supply some information first? like ...
What version of AutoCad are you using?
What platform are you using (DOS/Unix/Windows-3.1/95/NT)?
What do you want to accelerate? Video? Plots?

Ian, Having taught AutoCAD and other subjects at 3 Higher educations
institutions. You did the right thing. I hope you had the student refer
to their student handbook on the subject of plagiarism or original work.
All of the institutions I have experience with have a section on this
which usually spell out a minimum of failure in the course when caught
with the possiblity of expulsion. When I taught I enforced this. I do
as part of the course intro give them fair warning and reference the
appropriate sections in the handbook. After that I took no prisoners.
If they could be proved to have cheated, which was generally very easy,
they failed the course and the reason was entered on their college
record.
If honest is lost all is lost.

In AutoCad for Windows r13 c4 you have an editor window with the command
line window (docked or floating) available at the same time.
In order to access the text window, one simply presses function key
"F2", and the (resizable) text window appears "on top" of the drawing
editor window.
I believe it is possible to have a dual screen configuration under
Windows NT provided that both the video card and the video driver for
Windows NT accomodate this functionality.
I once had a dual screen DOS AutoCad system and I find that I do not
miss it very much. An additional (windows) bonus is that one can scroll
back through the text window to see information that would have scrolled
off the screen in a DOS setup.

I'm not sure that a spiral extrusion path is what is needed to do this.
I think "twisting" a cross section of the drill bit while extruding is
what is needed.
I don't know if R13 can do this. I know R12 AME can't.

I have accidentally changed, via the wrench icon in the render to window
to set the horz and vert to 4000. this causes my system to crash.
How do I change the values back to something the system can handle.
The only way I could find to change these values was at the wrench but
this icon only appears after it completes a rendering to a window....
But the system crashes before it gets there....

Yep that's OFFICE, as in business class software, if you want
home class software, get Works or even Corel's Perfect Office.
Both are cheaper than MS Office. Usually they come bundled with
home PC's , I know Works does. AutoCad is Engineering software,
It's not what you use to design a deck or a kitchen remodel,
there are some $150 and less packages for that. AutoCad is big
bucks because its very powerful. An imperfect analogy (arent they all)
is that you dont buy a Detroit Diesel 5ton truck to pick up groceries
at the corner store, so dont bitch about the price of the truck.
The folks who use them for what they were designed dont think the
price is excessive. (they like to pay less, but not if it only had a
1/2ton capacity, or 5 Mile range)
Trying to justify the theft of the product by 'its too expensive' just
doesnt wash here.

Subject: Mechanical Desktop Question
From: Student
Date: Tue, 12 Nov 1996 17:54:04 -0800
I have another rather hard question (or we think so) about
M. Desktop:
How do you make a surface into a part?
Wait, don't say it can't be done!
We're trying to model some components in Desktop and then
translating them to Ansis for FEA. But it is quite less time
consuming (IE 2 days vs 3 or 4 hours, no exageration) when
we make the object (a flange in this case) out of a surface
instead of a part.
I tried making just a block then cutting away using surfaces but
over 60% of the time it would't work, Desktop said the surfaces
wouldn't AMSURFCUT.
Any suggestions, comments?
Thanks,...CC and email if you could.

Subject: accessing _preferences _environment dialog box in 13
From: poleary@azstarnet.com (godzilla)
Date: Wed, 13 Nov 1996 14:41:02 GMT
hello,
just wondering if anyone knows how to accessing the environment dialog
tab (box) in windows 13 using autolisp.
i've tried the standard commands like:
(command "preferences" "e") with as many variations as i can think of,
but the command stops after opening the preferences dialog box.
i've tried creating a macro using the windows recorder function
(remember that win 3.1 16bit thing?) at the suggestion of someone who
posted here - & that works in windows (not autolisp) fine. i've
actually tried assigning the macro key (cntrol-j on my machine) to the
side bar & pop menus - no such luck. the only effect this has (of
placing a ^j in the menus is to act as if the return key were pressed
(and the last command is executed again).
any insight would be appreciated.
thanx in advance

FWIW, Intergraph Imagineer supports linewidth attributes
which can be supressed. I'm going to be posting a product
review of Imagineer on my website soon. I've not been this
excited about a CAD program since Autodesk first released
AutoCAD 2.18 (the first to have AutoLISP).

Your not by any chance using Xref's are you. We are experiencing the
same error message. It seems to be related to corrupt layer information
in the Layer Table. R13 Xref's seem to have a few bugs in regard to
layers. Some layers that have been deleted from an Xref source file are
not being deleted from the file that contains the xref. There are a few
other anomalies as well. As a result, any AutoCAD command that is
referencing the Layer Table will cause the fatal crash. Such commands
include LAYER/?, DDEMODES, DDRENAME (it defaults to listing the layers).
If you have a file that you suspect is going to cause a problem, try
using the AUDIT command with "Fix errors automatically" turned on. If
there is a bad layer then it will probably be renamed to
$AUDIT_BAD_LAYER.
Hope this is a help to you!
Kind Regards
Sean Kenny

Subject: Re: block/wblock
From: "Robert Albert"

Technically, there is no such thing as a wblock. There is a COMMAND called
wblock which is used to create a drawing file, which may be inserted as a
block into another drawing file, the one you are editing.
A DWF is an internet format drawing file, which can be viewed with the new
Whip driver, available now for Netscape and in about a month for Internet
Explorer. If you get ahold of the new AutoCAD Internet Publishiong kit,
you will get the Whip driver, a sety of tools for developing web pages, and
a toolbar which you use inside AutoCAD to add things to a DWF file online
on the web, enabling team members from diverse locations to interact more
efficiently on a project.

If it loads at the office and not at home you've got to ask yourself what
is different at home than at work. Three things that come to mind are the
display driver, your memory, and possibly what ram resident programs you
have running at home. Try using a different display driver. If that
doesn't work, clean boot so that other programs which could be causing a
memory conflict are not running. If that works you can add them back one
at a time until the problem resurfaces. And if you have much less memory
at home, consider getting more memory; its never been as inexpensive than
it is right now! In fact I just found a 64k SIMM in a box of Crackerjacks
last week! No, not really!

Uh. In DOS-version colors are usually handled by video-card driver.
My best guess is to try from Config, select video-card, etc.
What video-card and what driver you are using?
Colors of the dialogs are also controlled by DLGCOLOR-command, rarely used. (or
needed, anyway.)
Not much help, but HTH

Maybe. All I know is that these days we are encouraged to adopt a
"substance-free lifestyle". I'm not quite sure whether this means merely
an empty, laid-back, lifestyle, or whether I am actually being asked to

Subject: Importing raster files into r13c4
From: Glen Brent
Date: Tue, 12 Nov 1996 22:35:22 -0500
I have been attempting to import raster files in various formats, gif,
pcx, and tiff without success. Seems to work fine except that after the
scale is entered, the raster image disappears. I believe the image is in
an anonymous block (*u2, or some such number) but did not actually get
inserted into the drawing since I can purge it. Any notion as to why
not?
How can I make these import utilities work correctly?
Thanks, Glen Brent

Jerry,
You have not mentioned the release of AutoCAD you are using either R12
or R13. So if you are using AutoCAD R12 DOS you have to load it in
C:\ACADR12\FONTS directory.
If You are using AutoCAD R12 Win then load it in
C:\ACADWIN\FONTS directory.
And if You are using AutoCAD R13 then load new font file called
Hand2.shxit in
C:\R13\COM\FONTS directory.

Hi Darrell,
You can make the `ADD' button active in Check Spelling Dialog Box in the
following manner:
1)Give Spell Check command and in CHECK SPELLING Dialog Box(where ADD
button is greyed out) click on Change Dictionaries button.
2)Now in CHANGE DICTIONARIES Dialog Box and under CUSTOM DICTIONARY
section type the Name and path of directory where you want to store
the new words.
3)Then give O.K. and you will get the `ADD' button in CHECK SPELLING
Dialog Box Active to enable you to save new words you want.

Donna,
The customisation of Complex Linetypes interspersed with AutoCAD Shapes
and AutoCAD Text String can only be done in AutoCAD R13, as AutoCAD R12
does not support this utility.
And only simple Linetypes defined by numeric distances for dashes, dots
and spaces can be customised in AutoCADR12.

Hi Sean,
1)The Block of different entities you create using BLOCK command can
only be inserted(used) in the same drawing in which it is made but the
WBLOCK command creates a block as drawing file and is floating which
can be used(inserted) in any drawing in same AutoCAD.
2)DWG,DWF and DXF all are different file extensions to differentiate
different formats.
DWG is general file format in which AutoCAD stores its drawings.
And DXF is the file format in which the drawing files can be exported
or imported in AutoCAD from other Software Applications which also
supports the DXF files like 3D-Studio,CorelDraw,etc.

Jerry,
You have to load it in ACAD.PAT file in
C:\ACADR12\SUPPORT directory.
If You are using AutoCAD R12 Win then load it in ACAD.PAT file in
C:\ACADWIN\SUPPORT directory.
Now you can use these patterns to fill any area using HATCH or BHATCH

I personally never gave a flip. Yet I don't like "draftswoman", but I do
take it as a sign of politeness when a guy goes out of his way to
say "drafter". "Draftsperson" doesn't cut it either. Makes me think of

In the Plot dialog box, under Default Device/Settings (they phrase this
differently w/ each version) button, you can pick from a limited range
of drivers LT comes with. It does not have the selection AutoCad has.

LT is not like AutoCad. It uses Window's drivers for such things. You will
want your ACLT.CFG file back. Tip: instead of deleting, move it to a
different directory. That way you can see what effect deleting a particular
file will have without too much hassle in restoring.
Enjoy,

Hi Alan:
I have used LT 1.0 with an HP laserjet 4v and an HP 680C Ink
Jet printer. The line widths as set in the pen setup menu worked fine.
I am not familiar with the Canon printer. Do you have the proper and
latest driver? Windows 95 will no solve the problem itself, but it
might have a better driver. I hope this helps.

Dan,
Call 1-800-231-3348 and select "1". This is a number at Addison Wesley
Longman through which you can get the instructions. You'll be asked to
provide an e-mail address to which they'll send the info. Shouldn't
take more than a day!

Autodesk also holds classes in Europe. Check out the www page:
http://www.icp.com/autodesk/europe/training/apitrain.htm
That might be easier for the original poster to attend.
Cheers,
