If you can show me the exact format of the data file (a
small example will do fine), I might be able to suggest
a solution.

Venus,
You can search at HP's website
and try to locate the required Driver and then down-load it for using
to run your HP Color LaserJet 5.

Dallas,
The problem you have mentioned do not generally occur while working on
AutoCAD R12 even from DOS mode in Windows 95. The layers get listed
alphabetically in the layers dialog box irrespective of order they are
made while the dialog box is reopened after closing it first time in
which the layers are made.
So please try to specify the extact situation in which you are facing
this problem to enable us to help you further.
Also see that the layers list will appear alphabetically when the
layers dialog box is reopened after closing it first time in which
the new layers are made.

Hello,
AutoCAD R13 for Windows 95 has following merits over AutoCAD R12:
AutoCAD R13 is more user friendly in following ways:
1)You will get Toolbars on screen which you can arrange anywhere on the
screen and also customise these Toolbarsas per your requirements.
2)You get object properties Toolbar from where you can easily and more
quickly do the Layer setting without going to Layers Dialog Box.
3)You also get common Microsoft features like CUT, PASTE, COPY, SAVE,
PASTE SPECIAL etc under EDIT Pop-down menu or in Standard Toolbar.
4)Many new features are being introduced like Construction lines,Rays,
Multilines,splines,3D-splines,Multitext for writing paragraph text,
associative Hatching,enhanced Dimensions techniques,extrution along
splines and 3D splines is possible, object linking and embedding facilities,
direct 3DSOUT for exporting files to 3D-Studio,direct faxing of drawings
from AutoCAD,customisation of Icons and Toolbars, customisation of menus,
varying LTScale settings and so on.
So it is a Good idea to switch over to the AutoCAD R13 Windows 95 as you
will get many additional features like, you can also open the multiple
sessions of AutoCAD in Windows 95 and others as mentioned above. All these
will definetely increase your drafting skills and speed and side by side
easy to learn.

Hi Jesse,
You have not mentioned which release of AutoCAD you are working on either
R13 or R12.
In R13 this type of modelling is easier as extrution of closed shapes
along splines are possible.
But in R13 and R12 both you can use surface modelling commands like
3D-Mesh, Rulesurf, Tabsurf,3D-Face and others to draw a 3D model of a
spoon.
You can use 3D-Mesh,Rulesurf,Edgesurf etc commands for making the curved
part and Tabsurf for making handle. But to do this sort of model using only
AutoCAD Tools will quite tidious and time consuming job and also the
nature of results after such a hard work cannot be firmly committed.
So I would suggest you to use some other Add-On application over AutoCAD
to make such type of models requiring sophisticated Surface modelling.
One very effective Application recomended for such jobs is `AutoSURF'
form Autodesk and other is `Autodesk Mechanical DeskTop'(or AMD) which
are capable of handling these type of Models like Spoon etc. easily.
And for multiple views use different Viewports with different UCS settings,
for further details of using these commands look AutoCAD Manuals(User Guide
or Command Reference).

Hi Mike,
Try to set the value or system variable `DWGWRITE' to 1, this will take
care of the read-only files created while opening the drawing files
(ACADR12 DOS) from network server.

Hi Tom,
This may be because of Display driver problem but donot worry use REDRAW
or REGEN commands to refresh the underneath objects and to retain their
original shape.

Hi Tom,
This may be because of Display driver problem but donot worry use REDRAW
or REGEN commands to refresh the underneath objects and to retain their
original shape. And try to set the right Display Driver to match your
hardware so that this problem is automatically fixed and no further use of
REGEN command is required.

Hi Pam,
The customisation of Complex Linetypes interspersed with AutoCAD Shapes
and AutoCAD Text String can be done in AutoCAD R13, and the type you are
mentioning can also be achieved.
For details of how to do Customisation of complex line type go through
Customisation Manual; Chapter 2 `Linetypes and Hatch Patterns'.

Just thought I'd let you know, but here (Australia) R12 costs $ 100
MORE than R13. It was supposed to be an incentive to move to R13.
You might say you would not move back to R12, but that is your choice.
If you did have a disaster, you could go back. We can't, as we
surrender our old lock and get a new one which will NOT allow our R12
to run. And no, we still don't have the R12/R13 bundle yet.

Doesn't your Hitachi WinTab driver allow you to re-assign the cursor
buttons? The Summagraphics driver does, and you can make any button
the pick button.
About the only thing I can see being a problem is that this would only
work in the screen pointing area. In the tablet menu area, it would
revert to the settings in the menu file.
Maybe this is something Autodesk should look at implementing in R14.
Allow the user the complete freedom to assign any button to anything
they like, including the ability to not assign a pick button and
thereby screw things up. Well, they will simply have to go back and
edit the menu file again. Again, a simple alert box would suffice.

Exactly.
But, with a digitising tablet, you can have all of this PLUS the
benefit of an absolute positioning pointer. This results in a lot
less pointer movement. It is this feature alone which saw one of my
clients purchase a small (I think it was a 7" X 7") tablet for their
receptionist. She was tired of "brushing" the mouse, and the tablet
they bought her was about the same size as the mouse mat.
OK, so it takes up a little more space than a digitiser, but if your
workspace is that cluttered that you can't allocate the space for a
digitiser, then maybe that needs to be looked at.
Whatever the case, I don't think that the digitiser was EVER made
obsolete by AutoLISP, DIESEL and custom menus.

AutoLISP doesn't know what a date is, and can manipulate
dates and times only as floating point values (Julian).
AutoCAD's Diesel Interpreter does provide a function that
can format a Julian date/time in common formats, and it
will format a post 2000 date/time correctly.

The read-only button is checked when you're trying to open
a file on a network drive in which you don't have write
privilege on one or more directories in the path to the
file.
One way around this is to add the following to your
existing ACAD.LSP file (if you don't have an ACAD.LSP
file then you can create a new one which should be on
your support path):
;; ---------------------cut here------------------------
(defun AtStartUp (exprlist)
   (if (not s::startup)
(setq s::startup (cons nil (append exprlist '((princ)))))
(setq s::startup (append s::startup exprlist '((princ))))
   )
)
(AtStartUp '((setvar "dwgwrite" 1)))

I don't know about the other information you're getting
here on this, but I can import raster files into R13c4
with no problem. There are cases where colors might be
translated into ones that are the same as the graphics
display background color. Have you verified if the data
is being inserted by trying to select it, or by using
the LIST command?

Try this location to grab your compiler (their are at least two
compilers available, one commercial and one shareware - check any
recent issue of Cadence/Cadalyst)
 	http://xarch.tu-graz.ac.at/autocad/progs/#code
One of the great things about compiling a lisp program is that it
can't be returned to its native ASCII format preventing unlawfull
usage of the code. Beware of the simple "Protected" Lisp routines
which CAN be unprotected with a separate unprotect program !!
Compiled routines are usually more compact and probably execute
faster.

Hi,
Does anybody know how to REVSURF in AutoCAD LT. I know how to EXTRUDE
and I know how to create a revolving surface in AutoCAD 13, but up
until now I did not find a way to do the same thing in AutoCAD LT.
I am not even sure whether it is possible at all.
I hope someone can help me out,
Thanks in advance

From: olskrok@algonet.se (Robert Lindquist)
Date: Sat, 16 Nov 1996 13:28:43 GMT
I understand that pen widths and printers is a popular subject here.
I run AutoCAD R13 in W95 and the only way I have been able to
print out different widths is by using Polyline and change its width.
Rather frustrating way to do it.
I read in an article that a emulator - PrintGL - was able to solve my
problem. I tried it but couldn't make it work.
Does anyone of you have any experiance of this issue? Is there
a better way?

Sorry Reini,
but this problem is not a consequence of OO. It's a very stupid design
decision, that just happens to be *implemented* using OO-technology.
If that decision was made deliberately or by accident will probably
remain the secret of some folks at autodesk. In both cases, it doesn't
shed a very positive light on them ...
And yes, I think it would have been almost trivial to implement it in
a way that allowed you to *view and plot* those zombies without the
3rd party app that created them.

(command "chprop" (ssget "X" '((8 . "DIM_LAYER") (0 . "SOLID"))) "" "c" 2 "")
This will change all the solids (arrowheads) on the dimension layer to yellow.
Hope this helps.

Try HP Design Jet 330 (for B&W;) or 350C (for color), our company just

I import the .tif file to Microsoft word and print it with injet printer.
I am also trying to print out the shaded drawing directly to our HP

Hi All,
If anyone out there can help I'd really appreciate it. My husband is
using ACAD LT v 2.0 on our home computer running Windows 95. Everything
was working just fine until suddenly a couple of days ago whenever he
started the program a message would come up saying "Permission denied
access to Aclt.mnx? When the program finally comes up no menus are
visible except File Edit and View. The toolbox is available. Should
we just uninstall ACAD LT and then reinstall it?
Thanks,

When you talk about blocks you need to understand that there are block
definitions and block references.
Block definitions are found in the table section of the drawing and
define how a block looks. If the block has any attributes, then you'll
find an attribute definition as part of the block definition. The
ATTDEF simply defines how the attribute looks and acts (layer, text
style, tag, prompt, etc...). ATTDEF's rarely exist in the entity
section of the drawing.
Block references (INSERT's) are found in the entity section of the
drawing and define where to place a block definition. If the block
definition contains an attribute definition, then the block reference
will have an attribute (ATTRIB) associated with it. The ATTRIB object
simply stores the value that the user supplies when inserting the
block reference.
So to sum up...ATTDEF's are typically found in the table section as
part of a block definition. ATTRIB's typically exist in the entities
section as part of a block reference (INSERT) and hold the value of
the attribute for each block reference.
I hope this helps...it made sense in my mind but that doesn't always
translate......

Subject: Gray tones with HP 560C deskjet printer?
From: "Bruce R. Otto"

I have my HP 560C Deskjet printer configured using the ACAD drivers that
come with version R13 C4. The printer works well in all respects, except
that gray tones are not an option. In the pen setup I only have 7 basic
colors, that doesn't include gray or any of the other 200+ colors. The
printer is capable of producing gray when I use MS excel or Word, Anyone
know how to fix this?

Is anyone aware of a Lisp routine that will allow me to place a 3D mesh
over a series of evenly spaced polylines? I digitized the lines in from
a geologic map, and they represent a curvaplanar rock-unit surface. The
lines are spaced at equal Z spacing (like contour lines), now I want to
represent the plane that the lines define with a mesh. I'm using V.R13

Subject: ACADLT WIN95 startup from a file manager?
From: Rob Peterson
Date: Sat, 16 Nov 1996 10:05:44 -0600
All my other W95 applications start up nicely when I double click the
document name with the appropriate extension (eg, xxx.TXT) in a
directory listing.
But, when I double click XXX.DWG, Autocad LT W95 does open up but I have
to do two things before I can look at my drawing:
1) First, I have to minimize the directory listing window which is
sitting on top of the document (the other apps don't do that).
2) Then I have to "cancel" the setup wizzard which apparently thinks I
am starting a brand-new drawing.
Then, the file I selected starts to load.
This process is getting boring and I feel sure there is some switch
buried in there somewhere which will stop this. Any suggestions would
be appreciated.

'Shift-pick' works fine with me (R12 Solaris) for multiple grip
selection.
'Alt-pick' is intercepted by X11, and used to manipulate the GUI (move
and resize windows etc). This will probably also prevent other
'alt-xxx-pick' combinations.
What is 'ctrl-pick'supposed to do?
