I’ve installed Microsoft Office95 on WindowsNT 3.51. How do I edit a program button in the Microsoft Office Manager toolbar for starting AutoCAD from a remote disk? In the 16 bit version of office I can edit the AutoCAD button command line to read: ‘m:\win\acad.exe /c d:\acadcfg’. The ‘m:\…’ string defines where to find the Autocad executable on a remote disk. The ‘/c d:\…’ string identifies where to find other files needed locally for AutoCAD to run. I can’t find a way to edit the command line in Office95 to add the ‘/c d:\…’ string. Where am I screwing up? Ben Crane CAD Manager, A-dec, Newberg OregonReturn to Top
OLE doesn’t behave like I think it should. I’m trying to insert a Microsoft Word file into AutoCAD r13c4a with its original format in tact. When I drag a word file onto a drawing it drops into to the drawing alright, but I lose all formatting. The file comes in on one or two very long lines. I have to zoom wayyyy out and use grips to size the text window. I lose all structure of the original word document including paragraphs. What’s the proper way to insert word files into AutoCAD? Dear Michael, I recently upgraded my home computer to a 586-133 (AMD) and added 16 MB RAM for a total cost of $298. That cost included the 133 processor, a new EIDE VESA II compliant motherboard, which allows me to use my Diamond Stealth 64 video card for a couple more years. The largest cost was the RAM ($190) which I bought several months before the motherboard & chip ($108). If I had waited to purchase the RAM (isn't hindsight wonderful?), the whole deal could have been done for around $220. My opinion about the processor/RAM issue is go for processor speed, get the fastest processor you can afford. The problem with this is that if you buy a true Pentium, you have to get a motherboard that's complient, which probably means a new video card too, which adds another $300 or so if you want a decent one. I decided to go with the 586-133 because it would allow me to use all my old hardware, and the speed increase was incremental (I had a 486-80), so I feel it was a good trade-off. Hopefully this gives you some reference to work from. Good luck on your upgrade, David E. I need a little help. We have CadOverlay installed and when plotting to a device that is configured for HPGL2 we cannot get the vector objects to map to the proper pen weights. Normally we map colors to pens that have a width defined to them. If we plot to our Versatec plotter which is configured for HPGL we get our proper pen mapping. It is when we plot to the Calcomp or Lexmark laser printer which are configured for HPGL2 that we loose the mapping. I know the Calcomp and Lexmark are configured properly because when plotting from Autocad with out CadOverlay we get our proper line weights. Any help on these matters: use autocad 13 to design a 3 dimensional Machine Part. The ACS show recently held in Germany (similar to the US AEC Systems show) demonstrated the exchange of information between applications using object technology that is based on work by the IAI, IFC and the AEC Market Group at Autodesk. The sample model was the Schroder House by Reitveld. The file was completely model based (Walls, doors, windows, slabs, columns, spaces, etc) not just lines arcs and circles. Not just blocks or polyface meshes, but OBJECTS!!!! The partners (and competitors) exchanged the file via IFC tranlsations without the need to "get a plot of the original and REDRAW it" as Glen fears above. Interesting Frank - that You didn't refute my cliam that the internal MTEXT editor is hopelessly broken. I've had to kill AutoCAD and loose data more times than I care to remember, as a result of attempting to edit a modest amount of MTEXT formatted with a TrueType font. I confirmed today that the problem persists in R13c4a. -- /*******************************************************/ /* Tony Tanzillo Design Automation Consulting */ /* Expert AutoCAD Programming and Customization */ /* --------------------------------------------------- */ /* Co-Author of Maximizing AutoCAD R13 and */ /* Maximizing AutoLISP for AutoCAD R13 */ /* --------------------------------------------------- */ /* Contributing Author, CADENCE Magazine */ /* --------------------------------------------------- */ /* 71241.2067@compuserve.com */ /* tony.tanzillo@worldnet.att.net */ /* http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/tonyt */ /*******************************************************/ Frank WhaleyReturn to Topwrote in article <3291a5e2.11070718@news>... > "Tony Tanzillo" wrote: > > ... > > Not long after R13c4 was released, one of the developers > > at Autodesk posted a standlone Windows MTEXT editor (which > > is essentially nothing but a Windows edit control wrapped > > in a dialog box) on the AutoCAD forum on CompuServe. Perhaps someone has tackled this problem and can help. I currently have R13 installed on Win95 and I am using a Genius Tablet from KYE, which is configured for Mouse/Digitizer arbitration. I am having trouble with my custom menu which I have been using since version 10. The problem is that when I move the cursor over to pick from the screen menu (the vertical text bar to the right) the cursor will dissapear once it gets to the screen menu instead of highlighting the commands. I have to click once or twice to get it to highlight the menu THEN I can pick a command. It only does it after I have pressed the 3rd(programmed like this: ^C^CREDRAW;$S=MAIN )and 4th (programmed like this: ; ) cursor buttons and after that it does it consistantly. I am aware that the menu script has changed from R12 and I have converted my .MNU to .MNS and cannot find anything abnormal (to my knowledge) with the script. I have even copied the ACAD.MNS file and modified the ***SCREEN portion of it to match my custom menu, still no luck. If anyone has had a simmilar problem please let my know what can be done to solve it. I suspect that I have missed something in the script, but just dont know where else to look. Please help! You probable will not find any Architect to give away his/her work. Field drawings (construction drawings) wouldn't be any good to you. Or are you just looking on getting some ideas? Here's my tip of the day. Get into AutoCAD and draw. Draw like there's no tomorrow. After a few days of plotting your file seeing your mistakes, you'll learn from yourself. What if you downloaded some drawings drawn by a fool who has no previous knowledge of basic drafting principles ??? Were you aware of the new R13 ARX application release by ABUS? This got rid of the cheezy dwg editor and basically everything FM related is now done from within R13 via ARX so you don't need to worry about any drawing incompatibilites. It's worth looking into. -- Don Buschert don.buschert@sait.ab.ca Facilities Planning & Design Campus Operations & Maintenance Fax : (403)284-7272 Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Calgary, AB, CanadaReturn to Top

I do not know exactly what you mean. But it is possible to get the text displayed by the entity as well as the graphics primitives making up the entity's visual representation. > Basically we are converting the MTEXT into another format so we need > to extract the positioning, size, style etc of each separate word or > line in the MTEXT element. Yes, this is possible for MTEXT but not for TEXT though. Cheers, AlbertReturn to Top
