Subject: Editing Microsoft Office95 toolbar for AutoCAD
From: ben crane
Date: Tue, 19 Nov 1996 06:57:50 -0800
I’ve installed Microsoft Office95 on WindowsNT 3.51. How do I edit a
program button in the Microsoft Office Manager toolbar for starting
AutoCAD from a remote disk?
In the 16 bit version of office I can edit the AutoCAD button command
line to read: ‘m:\win\acad.exe /c d:\acadcfg’.
The ‘m:\…’ string defines where to find the Autocad executable on a
remote disk. The ‘/c d:\…’ string identifies where to find other files
needed locally for AutoCAD to run. I can’t find a way to edit the
command line in Office95 to add the ‘/c d:\…’ string. Where am I
screwing up?

Subject: OLE question between MSword and AutoCAD
From: ben crane
Date: Tue, 19 Nov 1996 07:01:07 -0800
OLE doesn’t behave like I think it should.
I’m trying to insert a Microsoft Word file into AutoCAD r13c4a with its
original format in tact. When I drag a word file onto a drawing it
drops into to the drawing alright, but I lose all formatting. The file
comes in on one or two very long lines. I have to zoom wayyyy out and
use grips to size the text window. I lose all structure of the
original word document including paragraphs.
What’s the proper way to insert word files into AutoCAD?

Subject: Re: memory or processor - which to upgrade?
From: "David E. Gonsalves"
Date: Tue, 19 Nov 1996 17:35:56 GMT
Dear Michael,
I recently upgraded my home computer to a 586-133 (AMD) and added 16 MB RAM
for a total cost of $298. That cost included the 133 processor, a new EIDE
VESA II compliant motherboard, which allows me to use my Diamond Stealth 64
video card for a couple more years. The largest cost was the RAM ($190)
which I bought several months before the motherboard & chip ($108). If I
had waited to purchase the RAM (isn't hindsight wonderful?), the whole deal
could have been done for around $220. My opinion about the processor/RAM
issue is go for processor speed, get the fastest processor you can afford.
The problem with this is that if you buy a true Pentium, you have to get a
motherboard that's complient, which probably means a new video card too,
which adds another $300 or so if you want a decent one. I decided to go
with the 586-133 because it would allow me to use all my old hardware, and
the speed increase was incremental (I had a 486-80), so I feel it was a
good trade-off. Hopefully this gives you some reference to work from.
Good luck on your upgrade,
David E. Gonsalves, LSIT

I'm not sure which platform you are referring to, but the SGI version of
R13 includes several dual-screen modes. You can check it out at:
	http://reality.sgi.com/autocad/BonusPack.html#DualScreen
Some of the modes described are also supported on other Unix platforms.

Subject: Anyone using CadOverlay 7.20?
From: Don Jacobsen
Date: Mon, 18 Nov 1996 20:39:15 -0800
I need a little help. We have CadOverlay installed and when plotting to
a device that is configured for HPGL2 we cannot get the vector objects
to map to the proper pen weights. Normally we map colors to pens that
have a width defined to them. If we plot to our Versatec plotter which
is configured for HPGL we get our proper pen mapping. It is when we
plot to the Calcomp or Lexmark laser printer which are configured for
HPGL2 that we loose the mapping. I know the Calcomp and Lexmark are
configured properly because when plotting from Autocad with out
CadOverlay we get our proper line weights.

IRIX 6.2. Does anyone have experience running AutoCAD R13 under this

John, it sounds like you have a corrupted acad.pwd file.
1) delete it.
2) copy a file from a co-worker, but make sure he is not in AutoCAD at the time.
3) get into AutoCAD.
I would get out of AutoCAD again, then copy the ACAD.PWD to another file like
ACADPWD.SAV. This way if it happens again, you ahve your own back up
good luck

Any help on these matters:
use autocad 13 to design a 3 dimensional Machine Part.
Once all autocad 13 data is stored on disc, need a conversion
program converting data to RS-274-d (or similar ) codes which
will then be read and used by a numerically controlled machine (cnc)
post-processor to ultimately control a wire EDM machine;

Add the following line in the SYSTEM.INI file under the Windows directory

device=c:\acad12\pharlap.386
Now restart the system and then Windows . Now it should work.

Why don't you contact your local Autodesk Training Centre to help in
preparing one good test for the selection . They might also have some

Autodesk spearheaded the Industry Aliance for Interoperability (IAI)
about 18 months ago to create a set of Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)
for the AEC industry. The ACS show recently held in Germany (similar to
the US AEC Systems show) demonstrated the exchange of information
between applications using object technology that is based on work by
the IAI, IFC and the AEC Market Group at Autodesk. The sample model was
the Schroder House by Reitveld. The file was completely model based
(Walls, doors, windows, slabs, columns, spaces, etc) not just lines arcs

Increase the Permanent swap file size in the Windows to atleast 64MB.
Also check whether the 32 bit disk access is ON. If so switch OFF.

Did you try doing a web search by typing the KOREAN FONTS.
Also try in the Autodesk Registered third party developer site at

Don,
Did you try using the drivers give by the calcomp people along with the
printer. Did you try using the other options like Deskjet/Paintjet option.
I use that with my Olivetti deskjet for color printing. But not sure
with the calcomp laser printer.Did you try using the HP Laserjet options
given in the config plotter command inside AutoCAD. Check also for any
specific options for penwidths.

Did you load the proper Windows 95 version of the Mouse driver given.
Check also for any switch in the mouse to change from two to three button.
If it doesn't work then use the combination of the Shift key + right most

Hello Roger,
There is no easy way to do this except you redefine the Blocks or scale
down of your individual device drawings and the changes will be reflected
in the final drawing.
And then while Plotting you can set `Adds elimination of overlapping
horizontal or vertical vectors' in Optimise Pen motion dialog box in PLOT
Dialog Box to restict overlapping lines from printing.

Hi David,
You try to reconfigure your AutoCAD R12 using CONFIG command and do the
following settings:
1)In Configuration Menu select Option 3 (configure display).
2)Then in Available Video Display select option 9 (SVADI Super VGA)
and at detailed configuration prompt type `Y'.
3)Now,a menu will be shown ,in this menu click on Resulution/Mode of
graphic server frist you set the `CARD TYPE' and then set the
`Display Resolution' to the higher side than to what it was presently set.
Now the AutoCAD screen should fill your LAPTOP screen display.
Also check whether you are provided with any DOS executables for your
Laptop to change the display in VGA or SVGA mode to increase the display
area. I have seen such programs in COMPAQ Notebooks.

Not possible in R13 (or any plain version of AutoCAD). I think you'll
need a 3rd party add-on or a separate CAD package for that. Maybe
Mech. Desktop or if you have R12, an old version of AutoSurf.

Hi Mark,
There are some nice third party Add-ons on AutoCAD which can do the type
of job you are mentioning, for complete details of name and developers of
the same either look into the `Authorised Developers' section of Autodesk's
Website

Interesting Frank - that You didn't refute my cliam that
the internal MTEXT editor is hopelessly broken.
I've had to kill AutoCAD and loose data more times than
I care to remember, as a result of attempting to edit a
modest amount of MTEXT formatted with a TrueType font.
I confirmed today that the problem persists in R13c4a.

Subject: R13 and custom menu problem
From: Chris Homer
Date: Tue, 19 Nov 1996 01:45:17 -0600
Perhaps someone has tackled this problem and can help. I currently
have R13 installed on Win95 and I am using a Genius Tablet from KYE,
which is configured for Mouse/Digitizer arbitration. I am having trouble
with my custom menu which I have been using since version 10. The
problem is that when I move the cursor over to pick from the screen menu
(the vertical text bar to the right) the cursor will dissapear once it
gets to the screen menu instead of highlighting the commands. I have to
click once or twice to get it to highlight the menu THEN I can pick a
command.
It only does it after I have pressed the 3rd(programmed like this:
^C^CREDRAW;$S=MAIN )and 4th (programmed like this: ; ) cursor buttons
and after that it does it consistantly. I am aware that the menu script
has changed from R12 and I have converted my .MNU to .MNS and cannot
find anything abnormal (to my knowledge) with the script. I have even
copied the ACAD.MNS file and modified the ***SCREEN portion of it to
match my custom menu, still no luck.
If anyone has had a simmilar problem please let my know what can be
done to solve it. I suspect that I have missed something in the script,
but just dont know where else to look. Please help!
Thanks,
Chris

Manuel, why would you need someone elses drawing? You probable will not find
any Architect to give away his/her work. Field drawings (construction drawings)
wouldn't be any good to you. Or are you just looking on getting some ideas?
Here's my tip of the day. Get into AutoCAD and draw. Draw like there's no
tomorrow. After a few days of plotting your file seeing your mistakes, you'll
learn from yourself.
What if you downloaded some drawings drawn by a fool who has no previous knowledge
of basic drafting principles ???

Were you aware of the new R13 ARX application release by ABUS? This got
rid of the cheezy dwg editor and basically everything FM related is now
done from within R13 via ARX so you don't need to worry about any
drawing incompatibilites. It's worth looking into.

I do not know exactly what you mean. But it is possible to get the text
displayed by the entity as well as the graphics primitives making up the
entity's visual representation.

Yes, this is possible for MTEXT but not for TEXT though.
