Hi, Anyone know if it is possible to run AutoCAD release 12 for DOS on a PowerMac running SoftWindows 2.0? I know the performance will be slow but I'd like to know if it can be done. I'm not sure what drivers for the video, mouse, etc. would be compatible under SoftWindows. Please post all responses to this newsgroup since my email feed has been down for a while now. Thanks.Return to Top
I am experiencing 4 dramatic 1-second pauses every 5 minutes on the graphics page in Autocad 12 running under Win 95. It also is present in other applications, but is not a problem as the keyboard buffer hold the keypunches until needed. Anyone else experiencing this or have an idea what is causing the problem. I have saw comments in another group but the solution was invalid:( Regards, Ralph Repp rrepp@iquest.net Success is not permanent: The same is true of failure.Return to Top
I think were talking about two different things. What I'm referring to are generated by the acad.mnu file under the Buttons heading. They are commands (any one that you want) that can be initiated by hitting these keys in combination with the puck buttons (not the pick button). For instance on Ver.12 for DOS I can make the Shift+(red puck button) pick an endpoint. What is X11Return to Top
Thanks. I realize that, but it seems kind of dangerous. FCReturn to Top
I have a CalComp 600 running on my network which primarily has Dos machines runing 12. They can all plot through the CalComp fine, but the two machines that are running windows95 and acad for win (12) can't. Can't find the drivers anywhere either. Suggestions? Need help! Just loaded win 95, and tried to reload my Autodesk Collection, and it will not install autocad r12 for windows. Does Anyone have any ideas ???? This is a package that I bought from college. It came with 3d studios, and one or two other applications. Need help, it seems to only like dos! Thanks for any help. BrianReturn to Top
I am trying to create a solid model of a coil spring. I have used the 3D coil lisp routine but I can't figure how to give the coil a diameter. Lu & Spider, A quick way, if your new block is outside the drawing, is to rename the old block. Your new block will then come in and you can purge or keep the old one. KenReturn to Top

I have a user with Autocad 13, he does floor plans for our building I would like to be able to put the plans up on our internal web site. The prospect of loading each users machine with the plugin, doesn't please me since most users will just want to view the basic plan. Not having looked at the software yet, would it seem best to export to gif? And if so, is it a convoluted process? I promise I will read the manual, looking through autodesk and this news group, it looks like saveimg is the command to use. Any suggests? MikeReturn to Top
Also a very good utility for hpgl, dxf and gerber is CAMCAD. Demo is available on the internet. You only buy the type of translation you need. Many options. Demo works only as a viewer.Return to Top

[snip] > John Schneeg, Monroe County Comm. College, MI, USA First off, I have to admit that I have not encountered this version (I haven't used the Educational version). Secondly, you didn't actually ask for possible solutions, but here goes anyway ... The following method would be rather big pain in the ___, but it's a possible solution. Questions: Does this "educational message" get printed before, during or after the rest of the plot? Is your plot device by any chance using HP-GL? My thinking is that if you are plotting to an HP-GL device, you could instead plot to a file and then edit the file (any text editor should do) to remove the offending remarks. Knowing when the the "educational message" is plotted will help to track down the offending code in the file (for instance, the message may be appended to the plot file, then sent to the plotter). It would also help to know if the font printed is internal to the plotter or generated by AutoCad, by which I mean if the font is internal to the plotter, then the plot file will have the actual text of the "educational message" imbedded in it. If the message was generated in autocad, then of course the message will be just a series of pen strokes in the plot file. I would suggest that you create a drawing with a single line and then create a plot file. The HP-GL commands are fairly easy to follow (assuming you have a list of them, which shouldn't be too hard to find. For instance, my plotter manual includes them). You should be able to track down the offending section of code and send it into VapourSpace (something like paperspace but different). And there are utilities out there that will read HPGL files and plot them out to laser printers etc. Not elegant, but assuming there is no way to turn off this message in the configuration, it seems to be the only solution. Oh, and if you happen to be plotting to an HP-GL/2 device that supports the HPCONFIG command (this may be r13 only, not sure), check to see if the message is stored in the "annotation text" section (very unlikely). -- smilin' Miles Constable ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ miles@triumf.ca "... destroy the face of stupidity and corruption and put up in its place an edifice of truth ..." ~~ anyone know the source of this quote?Return to Top

The default is usually 96. This means that the last object drawn is not necessarily the one on top when you have coincident objects. Hi, I am Joseph, an MBA student doing market research for a company called Genovation, which is introducing a new product. The product is Function Keypad 35, which is a compact, all-purpose, commercial grade, programmable 35 key computer input device. Its principal purpose is to provide single keystroke macros for commonly used key-press sequences thus eliminating the need for time consuming, repetitious and error prone typing of commands. Typical applications for the Function Keypad 35 include control of equipment and specialized software programs, and rapid entry of computer commands in lieu of windows icons for speed sensitive applications such as CAD or flight simulation games. Specifications: interfaces to any computer via the RS232 serial port fully programmable by any of two key-definition software modules user may elect to individually define and store up to 70 custom macros (2 per key) in nonvolatile memory within the keypad, or download and store macros from the computer Genovation's software driver provided for this mode is fully compatible with DOS, Windows 3.1 & Windows 95. 7 by 5 relegendable keys arranged in a matrix, and any two adjacent keys may be replaced by a double key dark gray keypad measures 15 x 11 cm (6" x 4.5"), and weighs under 400 grams Survey: 1) Is this a product that you can see a current application for or maybe a future use for it? 2) What if there was a touchscreen variation of it? 3) What additional features would you like to see? 4) How much would you expect to pay? Thank you very much for your time and response. For more information check out: http://www.genovation.comReturn to Top

Hi, I can not seem to get AutoCAD R13c4 installed under a _new_ installation of WinNT 4.0 on a DEC Alpha. The "InstallShield" (or whatever it is called) always stops at 22% during its loading process. My dealer said that this happens with WinNT 4.0 upgrades, but, according to Autodesk, should not happen on fresh WinNT 4.0 installs. However, I have tried both, and I get the same error in each case. I was able to get the original version of R13c2b installed, but it has its own problems. Does anyone know how to get R13c4 installed on a DEC Alpha running WinNT 4.0? Lee, If you want to be precise, you should also be correct! What you're saying is not true. You cannot extrude along a splined 'AcDb3dPolyline' (for instance drawn with the '3DPOLY' command and splined with the 'PEDIT' command). The term 3D Polyline is not defined by Tony Tanzillo or myself. I cannot tell what's Tony's opinion, but when I'm talking about a 3D Polyline it's just an abbreveation for an 'AcDb3DPolyline' object (and from Tony's text I think he's of the same opinion). And it doesn't matter whether it's planar or not. The command 'EXTRUDE' just don't accept any 'AcDb3DPolyline' as a path. And if '3D' and '2D' is not applicable terms, you should tell your own developers. They called it 'AcDb2DPolyline' and AcDb3Dpolyline' !! Don't lead Autocad users into more confusion than nescessary, some may even try to do this. I am doing some architectural drawings in conjunction with a group of engineers who still work in AutoCAD Release 10. (Would you believe they have three bonifide copies of Release 12 still in the box!) They are very, very efficient with 10 and have seen no reason to upgrade hardware in order to run 12. Does anyone know a lisp routine or some method to save the drawings I will be producing in AutoCAD Release 12 directly to a Release 10 drawing? I'm looking for some method instead of using the "11to10 Program" that they have. So far it has managed to work at the various times they have tried it, but I really don't know of a sure-fire "12to10 Program" - does anyone on this newsgroup have a suggestion? Thanks! The solution is simple, but not too obvious ... The specified name for the autosave file needs an explicit path entered with it (even though the default value that AutoCAD prompts you with does not have a path). Change the name of the autosave file from acad.sv$ (or whatever you have specified) to drive:\path\acad.sv$. These settings are stored in the acad, cfg (or acadnt.cfg) file in the section [AutoCAD]. The point is that you are using the program to teach people to use AutoCAD. They are not supposed to use it in a commercial way. If a banner is printed then I, for one, will not look unfavourably on a portfolio of drawings presented to me if I was interviewing for a position.
