Not in the U. S. government. I work for the Tri-Service
CADD/GIS Technology Center, an entity of the Army, Navy, and Air
Force. We set CADD and GIS standards, compile details, evaluate
software, and provide some CADD and GIS training. I don't know
anyone in the Army, Navy, or Air Force who designs without CADD.

==================================================================
        Survey on Computer-based Information Organization
                  and Retrieval Effectiveness
==================================================================
We need your help!
Internet users have an intrinsic interest in information management
issues. This survey is being conducted by Dr. Stuart Piddocke,
Eric Sommer, and Arne Hermann to determine Internet users' level(s)
of satisfaction with currently available approaches for organizing,
accessing, and sharing computer-based and network-based information
- including the information on the internet.
It will take you only about 3 minutes to complete and return this
questionnaire. In exchange for your participation, we will send you a
complementary copy of our completed research study if you request it.
Your complete anonymity and confidentiality are also guaranteed. We
will not sell or give out your e-mail address or identity under any
circumstances.
Finally, this survey is being cross-posted to a large number of
discussion groups - to insure a representative sampling. We
apologize in advance for any annoyance if you should encounter
more than one posting.
Please copy this survey to your email program, fill it out, and
return it to us at: esommer@direct.ca

To heck with that... if you have the disk, then go to your authorized
dealer and tell him you disk no-longer works. Its his responsibility
to get it exchanged with autodesk. Up here in canada, they will do
that for free.
You can't just get someone elses personization disk, as it won;t have
your serial number on it.

Subject: Land/Highway modeling help?
From: "Bradley E. Smith"
Date: Fri, 22 Nov 1996 10:42:20 -0700
Does anybody out there have any experience with Land and/or Highway
modeling? I work for an architectural firm and we have a possible job
coming our way. If we get this, we will need to be able to do a simple
model of existing contours and new roadways. We would, more than likely,
be presenting this with a simple rendering and/or animation.
I am not terribly worried about the rendering/animation. However, we
don't have a lot of experience with the land/road modeling. We have done
them in the past (manually in AutoCAD), but this project, although not
super complicated, will be more than we probably want to tackle without
some specialized software.
If anyone can shed some advice, or give examples of good software to
purchase, it would be appreciated. We obviously don't need to buy a full
blown civil/surveying 3rd party app... and spend thousands of dollars.
Someone has probably run into this situation before... right? Thanks.

Hi Dave,
Both the DOS and Windows versions have some excellent advandages.
Whether to go totally on way or the other depends on the type of work
your company dones. I would suggest upgrading 1 or 2
licenses to r13win for a test run. It would be worth it just for
documentation. To me, technical documentation is where the windows
version shines.
Cheers,

Hi
If you are using windows , then you can have more than one dwgs
opened simutaneously.Remember it is actually different AutoCAD
sessions with different dwgs opened and not a single AutoCAD with
more than one dwg. With a single session it is not possible to have
more than one dwg.Hope this helps,

Hello:
I'm looking for a set fonts that when placed can mask other block,

If that's possible how would I go about creating a set of fonts that
mask.
Any information that you could provide would be a great help.

Subject: Re: Upgrade from R12 to R13
From: "Tony Tanzillo"
Date: 22 Nov 1996 17:58:56 GMT
R13 Should not present too many problems for AutoLISP
programs (there are a few minor gocha's but nothing that
I would categorize as show-stopping). For menus, there's
significant changs from R12 DOS to R13 WIN, but menus
are backward-compatible.
In any event, you should consider the performance hit
with the hardware you've got. This is probably the one
most significant issue with R12->R13 migration.
I have clients who were doing adequately with R12DOS on
486/66's with 24 MB of RAM. Moving to R13 Win and Win95
required completely new hardware (Pentium 133's w/32 MB),
just to maintain the same degree of performance.
You'll find some very useful information on R13 menus and
related topics in our new book, Maximizing AutoCAD R13.

You guys are talking apples and oranges.
I believe what Lee is talking about is not a 3DPOLY but rather a
SPLINE object. There is no distinction in the AutoCAD database between
a planar (2D) spline curve and a non-planar (3D) spline curve.
You can extrude along a planar spline curve
You can extrude along a 3D polyline (created with the 3DPOLY command)
that has *NOT* been spline fitted (using the PEDIT) command.
You *CANNOT* extrude along a non-planar spline curve.
You *CANNOT* extrude along a 3D polyline that has been spline fitted.

Be careful...... Tech support Summagraphics (now Calcomp) acknowledged a
bug in their wintab driver which adversely effect performance. I would
stay away from all summa products inlcuding the drivers.

Well your talking application (architectural) specific stuff
then...and that starts getting into Object Oriented programming (lines
that know they are walls and behave accordingly...). I guess I was
talking generally about multiple parallel lines.
Doesn't the AutoArchitect software allow you create wall definitions
that include 3D info such as footing depths, etc... I played with it a
bit about 3-4 years ago and thought that was a pretty cool feature.

Edit the aclt.ini and in the "General" section add the line
NoStartUpDialog=1
This will prevent the Wizard dialogue from opening.

Release 13 is only supported and tested for IRIX 5.3. There have been some
reports that R13 will run under 6.2, but you will be experimenting in
untested waters. We do know that digitizers and 6.2 are not happy with one
another, you'd have to stick with the system mouse. Hope this helps.

This delay is most likely caused by system resources being used, or the
display driver. Turn off any other programs that are running. If this
does not help, right click the mouse on "My Computer" and go to
Properties/Performance/Graphics. Reduce the setting one notch and see
if this helps.

If the drawing contains attached xrefs which reside in read-only
directories, it may be possible that these are causing the error. If you
can track this down, please send in a bug report to Autodesk.
Another thing to check is disk space on the local drive.

1. Set the options the way you desire them, along with any other
initial drawing settings you desire, and save the file. Specify this
file as the prototype when you use the new command. You can set the
default prototype drawing in the configure operating parameters -
initial drawing setup of the configuration menu. When the Desktop is
first started, use the new command with this prototype drawing to
store your settings.
2. The views automatically update when the model itself is modified.
To force drawing views to update in the Desktop 1.1, use
AMUPDATEDWGVIEW and specify the view. Otherwise you can use
AMUPDATEALL to update the model, and the vews will update when you
switch to drawing mode.
3. Currently you can only assign hatch patterns to external assemblies
as a whole. You can assign individual hatch patterns to components in
locally defined subassemblies. This is an important item for future
releases of the software.

No . It is not possible. But you can use the other formats mentioned

Try using the Config command and set the digitiser to interrupt mode.
Check also whether all the other settings are proper as in the installation

Mike,
There is a distinct advantage of using the WHIP PLUGIN either with the
Netscape or the Internet Explorer as the DWF format can be zoomed and
Panned just like a drawing file and much much faster .Whereas with the
GIF you can't get this and the file size will be bigger than this.

It seems, like you had crashed an undocumented limit with the PROTEUS,
which is in fact not a nice deal from autodesk.
But on the other hand, it seems not to be fulfilling any of the
GUI-Design--Guidelines, using an array with 100 Edit-Boxes. Try to
reorganize the Dialog, and perhaps you can organize them in groups,
and use cascaded dialogs, they work too!
!!! Let me think about the plain initialisation-routines, and how long
it would take to wait until the dialog is displayed completely!!!!
