An object fired from the ground is a projectile. Add thrust and it becomes
a rocket which then takes you into orbit. Thus describes a unifying
process of three distinct problems merged into one that can be found in
practically every introductory textbook on Newtonian Physics. If you
would like to solve from first principles a word problem in all its gory
detail but haven't the inclination to go through the tedious calculations
necessary to understand how the process works, Course Report allows you the
opportunity to do so.
Course Report (Version 1.0: Classical Dynamics) is a (2 term second year)
course that is dynamically built into a specially designed browser
combining the power of symbolic computation (Maple V, Visual C++ and
ActiveX Controls) with an easy to use simulator interface available on the
World Wide Web (http://www.aposoft.com/CourseReport). A key feature is the
interface linking the "rule of three" pedagogy (I) graphical, (II)
analytical and (III) numerical together in one streamlined application. As
you proceed through your problem sets (with illustrative examples), new
problems link up with previous ones (projectile motion in a resistive
medium --> Kepler's orbital motion) in both content as well as
infrastructure and quickly you find the course understandable and feel that
you know where it is going.
As a student you can subscribe online getting updates every week as you
progress through the course. As an instructor you have access to the
entire course material complete with a set of modules designed to fit
flexibly into your curriculum. As such, you have full control over what
degree Course Report can be used in assignments, projects, etc. Whether
you are instructor or student you will find it enlightening, practical and
easy to use.
The above 3 paragraphs are a promotional item that describes a "distance
learning" package which is currently in its development stages (due for
release in January 1997). A prototype of Course Report is now available at
the address:

Hello there!
I'm affraid that the driver you're using to plot is not able to see any
embedded raster images in your drawings.Try not to link. The text will
come as mtext in the current text style you ar using and will print.
However you'll lose any formatting you've done as well your fonts. You
can change the formatting (sort of) and the contents using DDMODIFY
command. You can also change the font to a Autocad font (true type, post
script or whatever). All this is true only for R13.
Hope that helps!

In somewhat the same context, on a compaq 6000 p200 the video card
and artist video card have both assigned irq 3 and 4 to them (which
is rather weird) and are in this way conflicting with com1 and com2
forcing the digitizer to polled mode. I haven't gotten to switch
P&P; to manual mode to change the irq settings (since the h/w manuals
don't describe this) but maybe someone can at least tell me why those
cards are (auto) assigned to use these irq's (or at least why they
are reserved by them).

You are correct Dennis. From past experience, I tend to treat some questions as "what's an
easy solution". Sometimes people don't consider the overall benifits vs. problems created
by a solution.
I have seen some of those drawings where all the colors are tha same. In addition, there
may be only 1 or 2 layers.

Subject: Calcomp DBIII and AutoCAD v12
From: Jwong@falconbridge.com
Date: Fri, 22 Nov 1996 15:01:15 -0600
I am having problems with AutoCAD v12 Windows running under Win95.
My Calcomp Drawingboard III crosshairs has the "jitters"! This makes it very difficult to pick or digitize properly.
If I lift my mouse off the board it eliminates some of the jitters but not enough.
The mouse is a bus mouse.
I did not have a problem before when I was using the DOS version of AutoCAD.
Also, I also have a problem with ACAD booting up and getting a digitizer disabled message. When this happens, I must reconfigure the Drawing Board.
I am running on a Dell Optiplex DGX 5100 with 32MB of RAM.

Subject: GenericCadd: Unable to select menu with right mouse button
From: ttuvm1.ttu.edu (Gary DeJarnett)
Date: 22 Nov 1996 23:30:02 GMT
My dad has been using GenericCadd for years and likes it so well that he still
wants to use it even though he now has Autocad. His only problem is that ever
since he upgraded to a larger hard drive, he cannot select a menu item with
his right mouse button. The mouse drivers are properly installed and the
mouse works fine with all programs (including Autocad). Menu items can be
selected using the home key, but that is a hastle and we are not able to
program "home" to the right mouse button. We have tried programming the
button to "PU" (pen up) and also leaving the macro for the right mouse button
blank, nothing works. I have reinstalled GenericCadd at least twice. The
right button is assigned a "NP" nearest point macro when I check it right
after reinstalling.
He is using GenericCadd 6.0 and a Kensington 4-button mouse on a Gateway 2000
66V machine running DOS 6. If anyone has any suggestions, we are about out of
things to try.
Thanks,

Just letting you know about the plotter. The guy came out and looked at
it today. There is a metal strip that runs behind the print head. On
it there are thousands of small indexing strips which the print head
uses to know where it is. Along the strip there were many spots w/o
these strips or they had been bent. Funny how something so small could
make a difference like that. -Sam Newnam

Subject: Re: 3D Drill bit
From: "Lee Harding"
Date: 22 Nov 1996 21:34:27 GMT
Frank,
I've put together a .dwg that steps through the process of creating a very
basic drill bit. I'll email the file to you directly, and anyone else (by
request) that is interested in creating this type of geometry.
The basic steps involved are as follows:
1. Create a multi-segment, linear PLINE. The PLINE should have at least
four segments per 360 degrees of rotation of the desired helix. For
example, to create a helix with one turn over a length of four inches, I
would use a pline defined as:
_.pline 0,0 1,0 2,0 3,0 4,0
2. Create an augmented line from the PLINE using the _.ameditaug command.
_.ameditaug _add
3. Before exiting the command, use the _twist option to specify the twist
for the augmented line. Notice that the normal vectors for the augmented
line are now twisted.
_twist 360 _all 0,0
4. Exit _.ameditaug and sketch the crossection of the helix that you
desire. Usually the section will be sketched immeadiately above one end of
the
_.pline -.5,2 -.5,1 .5,1 .5,2
5. Use the _.amsweepsf to sweep the section along the augmented line.
Select the section as the wire and the augmented line as the rail.
_.amsweepsf _last 0,0
6. Since the above example uses a section that is not continuous, three
separate surfaces will be created. It the PLINE used for the section have
been filleted before amsweepsf (thus making it continuous) one one surface
would have been created. To join the three surfaces together, use
_.amjoinsf
_.amjoinsf _fence 0,0 5,5
Viola!

> > >
Not having seen any color standards that didn't seem completely
arbitrary
and unrememberable, I devised my own standard that is equally arbitrary
but
very rememberable. I use only three line weights - fine, medium, and
heavy.
For anything wider, like a property line, I use polylines with width.
I do mostly architectural work, and produce both construction drawings
for
the contractors and 3d perspective views for the clients.
I keep colors 1-16 at a medium weight so drawings from consultants (who
seem to keep things pretty basic) will plot reasonably well. (Except for
color 8 - light grey - to which I assign a fine line; just can't help
myself.)
Colors that end in a 1 are all fine lines.
Colors that end in a 2 are all heavy lines.
Everything else is medium weight.
That's it for normal construction documents. I don't worry about
assigning
"real" looking colors to layers (like avocado(!) for appliances,
off-white for
walls, white for toilets, etc.) because I render with AccuRender which
lets
me assign rendering colors independent of the object or layer colors.
For aerial perspectives into a building, I have defined another plotter
definition in which all the lines are fine except for the color (15)
that
I use for walls, which is medium-heavy so the structure will pop out
from
the furnishings. This way, instead of having to change the colors of
layers
and then change them back again, I just use a different plotter
definition.
No pain, much gain. Coupled with AutoArchitect's ability to exchange 2d
and
3d symbols globally, I can work fast with 2d symbols and plot them for
CD
sets with my normal plotter definition, then change them all to 3d,
switch
plotter definitions, and plot the aerial views without futzing around
with
layer colors.
Works for me.

Subject: Excel data into curve
From: vhennefeld@aol.com

I want to transform data, which have been calculated for example with
excel, into a closed curve. Does anybody know about a lsp routine for this
case (or anything similar).
eMail to VHennefeld@aol.com appreciated!

I've never tried this; but wouldn't using clipboard to capture the
image from autocad work. You can then use PaintBrush, and LviewPro to
edit those images or in case of LviewPro (convert to .jpg or .gif).
Hijaak95 allows you to convert to different formats also; but I know
of no way cheaper than capturing the image from clipboard and then
editing with either of the three packages mentioned above.

I won't go into details but in my efforts to solve this problem I was able
to isolate a virus on my machine. The source of the infection is the
AutoCAD LT CD ROM of all places!!. I haven't been able to get a response
about this from Autodesk yet but will post something when I do. In the
meantime you may want to check your CD. I can't believe I am the only one
with this infection. The Virus is virogen.1294.

Attention Autodesk, if you're listening, I'm a struggling mechanical
draftsman and would greatly appreciate you giving me the ARX libraries
as a loner till I graduate from night school. I tried writing a
routine in lisp to draft the surfaces of solids (ie mold design) and
when using mere autolisp the DAMN THING gives me tons of error
messages. I know enough of C++ and 3 courses of calculus to shoot my
self accurately in the foot.

One comment - SOLPROF is in r12's AME, but was not in r13c1 through c3.
You will need to upgrade to 13c4 for SOLPROF.

I agree ... which leads to this further reflection: The original poster
is unlikely to read all (if any) of those newsgroups to which he posted
so that, while repeating the original spam with a reply is probably as
bad as the original post, the alternative (a reply posted to a single
group such as this) is most unlikely to find its target.
Ergo, the best thing to do when one of these messages surfaces is to
sigh (swear, cut your wrists etc) and move on. The worst things about
these messages are the perpetual follow on threads they provoke.

DON'T TOUCH THAT DDLMODES!
Just create a new plotter definition that assigns whatever colors you
want
on paper to the colors on screen. I do redlines this way: everything
plots
black unless it is red.

Why not use a parallel connection? Its faster by a bunch, and there
are none of those pesky serial problems to contend with. You can
probably buy an extra parallel port for $25 if LPT1 is taken...

Hi
I have a Kurta XGT digitizer and run R13 under NT4.0 - I could not find
any Kurta wintab drivers so used the summagraphics one. It crashed my
system, so I went searching again. The Graphtec wintab driver works
fine, so try it if you are having problems. I got it from a local dealer
here in Brisbane so unfortunatly I don't have an internet address.
Good Luck :-)

Hi
I have had problems with the hardware lock not being read. ie 'Fatal
Error hardware lock not installed ....'.
The Rainbow Sentinal driver does not work/has intermittant faults with
NT4.0. Go to www.rnbo.com for the new driver.
I only installed it yesterday - so far so good.

Where and when did you get your update (patch or full CD)?
I suppose that the missing function was added at some point
to the distribution.

I use it with R13 without problems under NT.
You tried it with the original drivers?
I simply cannot imagin such a problem can be a bug,but you never know.
I would try to reinstall, and get newest drivers.
good luck!!!

The Win 3.1 drivers work perfectly well. It is the Win 95 ones which
are buggy.
If you install the Win 3.1 set in Win 3.1 and then to a Win 95
upgrade, they work in Win 95 as well without any problems. The
problem is you can't install them directly in Win 95.

Apart from the Autodesk supplied alternative drivers (and apart from
graphics format drivers there is only HP-GL), you have to use the
Windows System printer, so all you need is a Win 95 Epson driver. You
can also use a program like PrintGL which processes HP-GL or HP-GL/2
plot data. Apart from PrintGL, you will also have to get hold of
HP-GL/2 Windows drivers. These can be obtained from the HP web site.
