Im sure there is an easy answer to this somewhere??? Hi peter! Yes, I believe it should'nt be to difficult to get trought this one: There is a system variable called FACETRES that can be set from 0.1 to 10. Try that one and set it at aroud 1.5 for a start. While you are at it take a peak at that other variable called DISPLISH and set it to 1 before you hit the HIDE command. This one will take away all these lines that are on the curved area of a solid object. Good luck -------------------------------------------------- Yves GingrasReturn to Top

I have tries this with all drivers and softengn appears to be as fast or faster. It appears that the windows display driver by Autocad is faster starting to display something on screen in the tight zoom in areas with the layer on layer off . I guess this is because it starts doing something immediently. But the overall time to display the full drawing with a layer on command is longer than the Softengn blanking and redraw of the screen. I did notice as I zoomed out in .5x increments the Softengn performance really began to show. The windows display driver by autocad really began to lag behind as more entities (objects) began to appear in the drawing. > don't tell me it also need 128 mb ram to solve the problem with 1mb > dwg file? I used a 1.25mb file for this last test. But I do think 64mb RAM is not a unreasonable amount of RAM in todays world. The only more RAM is needed is when your drawings get over 10mb in size for a single drawing or 2-4mb for multiple sessions of Autocad. > without softengn, I can always use ^c to cancel redraw while zoom out > (softengn only good for zoom out fast, I think) and zoom in to detail > to edit drawing using layer on off technic, and it faster to do like > this. > I thinks softengn need to recalculate/ collect all the dwg data on > display each time you turn on & off layer, that's make it slow. I believe you are right in the way it does this. I have found that the more objects there are on the screen the faster the Softengn is in comparison. Try timing it. If you have a drawing I would be glad to try timing some features for you. > please correct me if I'm wrong > I do not believe you are wrong. I think a lot of this is a matter of perception. I usually work with 3-4mb architectural drawings. When I turn on and off layers I may be turning of 30-50 layers @ a time. When I was using the WHIP driver I would sit and look at the objects that were on screen at the time of turning on a layer. The redisplay of the turned on layers would usually take a few seconds. Using the windows display driver by Autocad it would start drawing immediently but usually took up to 3 times longer to display the same screen as softengn. I think I am looking at the overall features of the driver instead of focusing on one single point. In a daily use application with all the other features I believe this will overcome and short comings. By the way I do not work for or receive and monies from Vibrant. I just like their product. :-)

Question: will autocad 12c1a for windows run out of the box under Win95? After installation, upon launching ACAD.EXE I get the infamous AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED IN YOUR PROGRAM ..... Hi, I'm not sure if this is an Autocad problem or a Quicksurf problem, but here it is. What I am trying to do is color Quicksurf drawn contours different colors depending on their elevation(Z) values. I am attempting to do this by calculating the high and low elevation values that the color will be on and then trying to read the contours into a selection set to be changed. I have included two examples of my code. Routine 1 is what I am hoping to do. lownum and lownumplus are both floats that hold the low and high elevation values for the selection set to encompass. I have made sure that these variables are in fact floats and they are not in a list. This routine does not currently work. I get a "Bad ssget list value" error. Routine 2 is a test that I have performed. This routine is absolutely the same with the exception of the variables being replaced by numbers (which are the very same numbers that the variables in Routine 1 hold). This routine works perfectly. Can anyone offer me an expanation as to why the selection set will not accept the variables as numbers and how I could possibly force it to. ; Program Name: Autocon ; Written By: Rick Paul ; Written: October 1996 ; Last Revised: October 1996 Routine 1: (setq group (ssget "X" '( (-4 . First this Base.dcl error will not come in R11 as you have mentioned. I think you are having AutoCAD R12. Try now the steps given below Rename the acad.cfg file to acad.old Check whether the Acadr12.bat is correct with the proper settings. It should be like this SET ACAD=C:\ACAD12\SUPPORT;C:\ACAD12\FONTS;C:\ACAD12\ADS SET ACADCFG=C:\ACAD12 SET ACADDRV=C:\ACAD12\DRV C:\ACAD12\ACAD %1 %2 set acad= set acadcfg= set acaddrv= Now you can change the c:\acad12 if necessary. Now AutoCAD will start working and it will ask you to do a Reconfiguration. Now select the Display as IBM VGA , MOUSE as Microsoft Mouse and the plotter you have. Now it should work fine. You should now check in for the proper driver if you for the video card mentioned . Please let me know whether the problem still persists. PSLTSCALE 0 No special linetype scaling. Linetype dash lengths are based on the drawing units of the space (model or paper) in which the objects were created, scaled by the global LTSCALE factor. 1 Viewport scaling governs linetype scaling. If TILEMODE is set to 0, dash lengths are based on paper space drawing units, even for objects in model space. In this mode, viewports can have varying magnifications, yet display linetypes identically. For a specific linetype, the dash lengths of a line in a viewport are the same as the dash lengths of a line in paper space. You can still control the dash lengths with LTSCALE. When you change PSLTSCALE or use a command such as ZOOM with PSLTSCALE set to 1, objects in viewports are not automatically regenerated. Use REGEN or REGENALL to update the linetypes in the viewports. G.Rajesh //Autodesk Product Support on the Internet//Return to Top

Now while doing this , AutoCAD will ask you whether do you want the outputs in Color?. Answer NO. Then it will also ask whether Do you want Dithered outputs? Answer NO. Now give enter to other prompts and now try to take a plot output. Check also whether the Windows driver for the laserjet is not corrupt. You're right, when dimensioning in model space, you need one dimension layer for each viewport, but not for each plot scale. Setting DIMSCALE to 0 will let the dimensions adjust to the scale of the viewport. Maybe I misunderstood your post. When dimensioning in model space you have to create and manage layers for each viewport and if you dimension in paper space you have to manage dimension styles for each plot scale. Neither way is very elegant but each way has it's pros and cons. When I teach people I tell them to pick one way and stick with it. Personally, I generally put dimensions in paper space unless I have a compelling reason not to. But then again I hate dimensioning and generally try to avoid it. -Jim Fitzgerald

It is possible however to update it and then use the Pharlap.386 file which is provided with the R12 or R13 to get R11 to run under Windows 95. You need to download the file os2pch.zip from either the Autodesk BBS (415) 507-5921 or the Acad forum on compurserve , and then run the Newdx.exe utility on their acad.exe to update the dos extender. Then you can use the above m method to run R11 under Windows 95. G.Rajesh //Autodesk Product Support on the Internet//

I've used Windows for Workgroups 3.11, AutoCAD LT V1 and V2, and an HP4L printer successfully, with the "system" printer driver i.e. nothing special. I haven't had any experience using the combination with W95, but I don't see why you should have any problem. Can you change the line widths at all? If not, you may be doing something wrong in the line width setup. I seem to recall I ran into something non-obvious when I tried to do that, and it took a bit of experimentation. I think it reverted to the defaults even though I thought I'd changed the values. I eventually got it to work though. Sorry I can't give more specific info.Return to Top

As far as I can tell, the fix (posted elsewhere, but essentially eliminating the search for a TCP/IP server on my local network) has worked on my machine. What software did you use to scan for the virus? Rick
