I got some Cyberware 3d-scanned objects but they are impossible to load
into Autocad because its huge solution. Too much points (~200 000) per
object. It needs about 30 minutes just to load such a drawing, not speak
of any operation.
You need an external program to smooth the mesh before you can think of
importing it into any CAD program (3ds had the 64000 vtx limit then).
With 3DS there's such a tool called OPTIMIZE or REDUCE (I forgot) which
reduces the vertex number. I brought my head down to 3000 vtx's andf
this was okay.
For the first conversion (to get it into 3ds) I wrote such a dos exe for
the cyberware format. I'll send it on request.
BTW: Cyberware is the manufacturer of such 3D Scanners. (Monterey, CA)
Incredibly good stuff and very nice guys there.
But there're also 3D "printers" out now!

Two of my 7th grade science students are working out an automotive design,

increasing engine power. Are there any mentors who have capability to

Who knows about an Autocad add-on called ArquiCAD or sth like that?
Can it work with R10?

There is a shareware (you need to register if ya like it) program that
will save, restore layer files. It is called LAYRBOSS.lsp... you should
be able to find it on some BBS.
This also has many other commands that are associated with layers.

Mort, the size of the dimension lines and arrows is set to the scale:

My sizes always come out right this way.

I got to say, if you dimension in pspace, then move pan or zoom, all the
dimensions are "moved". IMHO, this is not a problem in mspace
dimensionsing.
MAYBE you should try to understand my method, it is very easy.
Your clients ought to know there is more than one way to accomplish the
same thing, give them the choice.

Please, this is really an unwarranted comment..my method is for a 3
viewport drawing of a 3d model.
For 2d drawings w sections etc. only one layer is needed.
If you really want to know how to do this stuff, let me know.
But please, don't knock it until you have tried it!

Hey Mort, take it easy, geez, .. it's a suggestion, not a command!
Hope somebody out there can use this idea.
Please advise if you want a proto drawing.

Jim, before this goes up in the roof, I have no problems understanding
your method or any objections to why you do it. The reason: There's NO
general function in Autocad to do a proper dimensioning in paperspace.
That's also the reason why _all_ my clients were dimensioning in MS in
the old days (when PS/MS came). But this was not to their satisfaction.
Some asked me to figure out how to put the dim's 'were they belong' (as
they said). So I did. That's all. And after figuring this out, I never
claim MS to be the correct space. But, believe me, previously I
dimensioned in MS, but I never was comfortable with it. I didn't feel it
was right to mix the geometry with texting of the drawing.
> If you really want to know how to do this stuff, let me know.
> But please, don't knock it until you have tried it!
>
You describe very well how you do it, and I have tried it. If you insist
on putting your dim's in MS it's a good way, because you have your
pre-defined set of layers, already frozen upon initialization. And as
you say it, your method works well when you have a pre-defined drawing
lay-out. This is not always the case, and that's maybe the reason why we
end up with different solutions to the same issue.

I could have been more clear on this one, but what I meant was that when
you have multiple sets of dim's on a detail, you don't want all dim's to
be shown on all viewports. Main dim's are not shown on a detail, as well
as detail dim's are not shown on a general view.
Hope this is better,

It could be that the open command is redefined. Try to invoke the 'open'
command with '_open'. This calls the original Autocad command.

Hi
I think your problem is that your menu file has got locked somehow.
See if you have a *.mxk file.If yes, unlock it with the options-unlock
file command.
Hope this helps,

Hi
The number of lines is controlled by the facetres variable.
FACETRES -Of type real.Default-.5 Range .01 to 10.
But if you decrease the value , the smoothness of the cylinder will
be lost.
Hope this helps,

Why use lisp? If you set up one drawing with the standards you can start
the insert command pick the standard dwg then cancel at the inertion
point prompt. this would create in the current dwg all of the layers,
linetypes & blocks of the standard dwg. I suppose you could write a lisp
routine to do this.

Subject: Printing to HP Laserjet 4MV
From: "Felix Tong"

Does any one knows how to get "smooth" shading out of a LaserJet 4MV using
the HPGL/2 Driver that comes with autocad r13 c4. The problem that we are
experimenting is that anything that should print out shaded comes out with
a no very nice granular shading out of the laser printer. But when we send
the same drawing ( using the same driver) to an HP-650C plotter it comes
out with a very nice shading.
Any sugestions...

Do you miss the keyboard shortcuts you used in AutoCAD under DOS?
If you'd like 159 customisable hotkeys, each of which can hold up to 255
characters, and which has been tested with Autocad under everything from
Win 3.11/32s to WinNT4, (and works with almost all other Windows programs
as well), surf to:

You may have downloaded someones attempt to copy AutoCAD, but Autodesk
would not put such an item in a place that could be downloaded.
If however you were talking about your own network. I wouldn't download
the files, you need to install AutoCAD.
If however the AutoCAD that is up on the network is intented for a
single user, you would be violating the licensing agreement.

Yes' I know, and you have also the possibilities in plain ARX, but this
is rather a utilisation for the common Autocad user than for
implementation in 3rd party applications or developers only.
I appreciate the interest from Autodesk in this matter.

You can configure a plotter to produce GIF/BMP/TIF and a few others.
Go into Config/Plotters and look for
Raster file export ADI 4.2 - by Autodesk, Inc
and configure the output type that you desire.

Try renaming your RENDER.CFG to something else (instead of deleting it)
and start a render again. When I first upgraded to c4, it trashed my
render.cfg the first time.

Sean, I posted this to an earlier message. Remove your RENDER.CFG (y
renaming it to something else) Then rerun a rendering, and it should
recompile the render.cfg and work fine.

Matt,
I have the same situation. I have always read that you are supposed to
dimension in model space (through the vport) but I didn't like doing
this. Of course, if you do, make sure you dim. on the proper layer
(vpname1-DIM, vpname2-DIM, etc.) These vports are independantly frozen
in all other views.
I like to dim. in paper space. But when doing a dia. etc, I have to
redraw the circle on top of the one showing by using the CEN snap and
tying in the known radius/diameter. FYI, I believe that if you were to
jump into the view, and do a UCS, OBJECT and select the circle, jump
back to paper space, you will find that the QUA and NEA will work. QUA
and NEA will only work when you are on the positive side of a circle or
else its undefined. Hope this helps

Pring Shop Pro will pick up a DXF and output in any of several dozen
formats.

Hi All,
I'm not sure where or if this fits in here but; In reguard to XREF's;
Example drawing; A detail drawing with the "Border" as a XREF.
If the "example drawing" is inserted in a drawing, the *border xref* will only be
displayed if the *border xref* is already attached th the drawing, if not, only the error
text will be displayed.
Maybe this program can make it a bit more clear;
In C:P2270dwg, the drawing is first attached, then inserted. This is a little trick I
learned while trying to update some assembly drawings and the associated parts.

Subject: Hercules Stingray and Win 95 Problems
From: Brian Schonecker
Date: Thu, 05 Dec 1996 07:46:31 -0500
I'm attempting to use the Hercules Stingray VLB
video card at 1024 x 768 res on Win 95 and R12 DOS.
I get the Win 95 resolution just fine but when I
configure Autocad for 1024 x 768 VESA I get a
'bleeding' cross hair effect. That is, when moving
the cursor around, it doesn't 'erase' itself from
the previous position. I get thousands of cursors
all over the screen and part of the side menu gets
screwed up. The only solution that I've found is
to run Acad in VGA standard ONLY - the VESA 640 x
480 yeilds the same results.
...Any ideas folks?
BTW my system is a 24 Mb Powerspec with 1Mb
on video, 66 Mhz Cyrix chip, Acad r12c3

I'm not sure about getting the official user's manual, but
New Rider Publications puts out a very comprehensive manual

Hello,
we want to run Acad13C4 under WinNt4. Does anybody has (bad)experiances
with that. Are there some known problems?
My mashine will be a Dell PentiumPro200.
Thanks in advance, Calvin

My point was simply that the SETENV function apparently requires that
both the variable name and its value be quoted, and that it is a valid
function in R12c4. It may not exist in R13, but the input shown in the
R13 example is not definitive; try it again with both parameters quoted
and see what happens.
I might note that my participation in this thread is strictly out of
idle curiosity, as I personally have found no need for a SETENV
function. I do, however, find undocumented features intriguing...
