Hello CADusers,
I currently have a copy of Mechanical Desktop v1.1. After switching OS's to
Win NT 4.0, the dynamic shaded commands are not recognized. The 'Dektop
View' toolbars baox loads properly, but when selecting something such as
'Display Shaded' I get this message --- "_avrender Unknown command
"AVRENDER". Type ? for list of commands." It seems that this runtime
extension is not supported in in NT 4.0. Does any body no if this is the
case or point me in the right area from a fix.

I am so sorry for you, but I have used this drive for 6 months now, as
have several companions all over our company-- and had never ever had
any problems with installation or operation of this marvelous device.
Until now, we use it to exchange info. and specially drawings for our
Acad stations and to provide drafting layouts for our outside
contractors. NONE had any problems up to date. All are running Windows
95 on Pentium 100 or 120 machines.
You should check your ports or your hardware for any bad connections or
for cheap controler cards.
Can't help you with the Tylenol, sorry.

If you're getting this much abuse over therse prices, then I guess I will be
selling my digitizers for around $100. (little used, 4 or 16 button, with or
without tails on pucks - suma and calcomp)

I'm getting a similar problem but with kernel32.dll with again no success
on re-installation.

From: Chip

Is it possible to create non-rectangular viewports? I have many occasion to
use this because of over lapping viewports, or portions of model space I do
not want visible in a rectangular viewport.
I have used 3D surfaces above my model space 2D drawing and used remove
hidden lines in order to work around this, but there has got to be a better
way!

I realize that this message is a bit old but if you are looking for a
decent book on AutoCAD 3D modelling in R13 try:
AutoCAD 3D Companion by George O. Head
Second Edition, 1995
Published by Ventana Press
It is quite a good 3D AutoCAD guide.

From: silver0ne@aol.com

In my student version of 3d studio I can pull up any material in the
material editor. But in AutoCAD my materials library will not "preview"
any materials.
What could cause this problem? It would seem to be a problem
with the AutoCAD drivers.
  Thanks for any help.

Actually, it is not affected by any of the printer settings. I have
tried to resolve this problem as well. Has anyone tried using a
post-script driver for the HP 4MV with any success?

Subject: Re: Protecting AutoLisp programs
From: Jay Garnett

On the AutoCAD 12 bonus CD there is a program called protect.exe that
will do what you want. It isn't really a compiler, it just encrypts the
file.
If you are really serious about protecting your code however, this isn't
to way to go. Protected files can be unprotected fairly easily. (Don't
bother
asking me how, because I'm not telling!)
There is also a program on the bonus CD called kelvin.exe, that replaces
all
of your variable and function names with random characters. It also
destroys
the formatting of your code. Kelvinated files also seem to load alittle
faster.
There is also a AutoLISP compiler, called VILL, available, but it costs
over
$500 US. Way too much for the casual lisper.
That said, if you just want to share routines with your friends, why not
give them the code? Working with others can be a great way to get new
ideas and lead to a better application.
Just my two cents:

Subject: Colour inkjet plotters for monochrome work

>Ian White wrote:

Ian,
As a user of the HP 230 monochrome plotter for almost a year,
plotting exclusively on paper I would like to hear more about the
possible problems in using Film. I may have to produce about thirty
A0 size record drawings early in the new year and have never used
film. Is it possible that ink can be wiped off film even after it is
dried? Can you enlighten me on the film print alternative.
I also found your other remark about colour ink cartridges failing a
worry as I was considering purchasing an HP 350 next year. I also
will only have low colour usage. When you say that all cartridges
are "initialised" for each plot what does this mean and how does it
cause the colour cartridges to fail if they are almost full?
In the U.K. AutoCAD AEC is the predominant Building Environment
overlay for AutoCAD is this used in Australia at all?

As far as I know, AutoCAD cannot do that! There is another commercial
CAD/CAM system GeMMa 3D which can project letters onto any surface, as well
the imported from AutoCAD one. If you want more information please email me.

Subject: ACAD R12 for DOS in WFW 3.11/Win95

At work we run AutoDesk's AutoCAD R12 for DOS thru WFW 3.11 and Win95 on a
network. The problem is everytime someone invokes the AutoCAD program, it
reboots the computer and kicks that person out of the network. Is there
anything I can do to the configuration, or drivers I can download that
would
fix this problem? We are a small company on a tight budget and can't
really
afford R13. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I have this problem with acadlt v1, win95 and a hp5l laser - lines, dimensions
and text prints hairline thin. I know I can change lines to polylines but how
do I change the text and dimension lines?
