Yeah, it has to be said.
My favourite is

about "using set and setq" in AutoLISP

Here in Austria as well as in Germany the ISDN line costs the same as
the normal telephone line. :) But we got much higher normal fees. :(
I go to my provider with about 110000 Baud and efffectively 8Kb/sec.
Is that true that you dont have to pay for short distance calls?

My take is: get your tablet set up as a pointing device in Windows
(preferably in "absolute" mode, so a point on the face of the tablet
maps directly to a point on the monitor), set up your tablet driver so
an area about 3" high by 4" wide maps to your screen, and you will find
that after a short time using it, you will prefer the tablet to any
mouse. The big difference is the "absolute" pointing mode. If you have
a tablet lying around, try it; you'll see what I'm talking about. But
you'll have to get used to it for about a couple of weeks. Oh yes, also
get one of those gel-filled wrist-pads.
The hard part is getting a tablet driver that works right. For NT3.51,
with my Summa tablet, the new Summa v.2.1 driver is the first one I've
tried that works right. Also, you need to replace the updated
CSRSRV.DLL that got installed with Service Pack 4 with the original
CSRSRV.DLL that came with Build 1057. If you have a Calcomp, they too
have good drivers (in fact, it's the same BBS, since Calcomp bought
Summa) The Calcomp drivers and tablets can be a real pain to configure,
though. I don't know what to do if you have another brand, such as
Kurta; I use my Kurta XGT in Summa MicroGrid emulation mode with the
Summa drivers.
The problem most mouse users have is that if they're used to using a
mouse, for about one or two weeks, they will be uncomfortable and less
productive. I've done this at work, where I am the company Computer
Nerd (this is cruel); I open up their PC and disconnect the mouse port!
The user complains (of course); I tell the user, "Oh, your mouse is
blown out. Happens all the time. I've got one on order. In the
meanwhile, you'll have to put up with this tablet. Sorry!" A couple of
weeks later, I reconnect the mouse port. In the meanwhile, the user has
got used to the tablet, and invariably he prefers it, even after I "fix"
his mouse and offer to reconfigure AutoCAD back to using the mouse
again.

Boy this sounds like a fun problem! Can you send me an example drawing
with a "curved plane" entity in it? Are you talking about a 3D mesh?
And how would you pick where to start the text, and what direction the
text should go in?
I have a cheesy LISP program CTEXT.LSP that creates INSERTs of a BLOCK
called CURVETXT. Each INSERT has a bunch of ATTRIB entities, which
spell out a text string along an arc. CTEXT uses ENTMAKE to create the
IUNSERTs, rather than the INSERT command, so each CURVETXT INSERT can
have a different number of ATTRIBs. All I would have to do to modify it
to fit your needs is, first, to ask the user for the string, for the
insertion point of the string, for the direction, and for the 3D mesh
upon which to "lay" the text, then second, to calculate the insertion
point, rotation angle and extrusion vector for each letter in your
string; then I send the list of attributes to the subroutine and
generate the CURVETXT INSERT.

Not really what you're asking (so why do I reply ?), but in my opinion
'end' for endpoint is one too little. If you want to type, get used to
'endp' for endpoint and you'll never experience ending your drawing.

If I understand the original posting correctly, I have seen a LISP

ART.LSP and I have seen it in a few of the websites that offer free

hope this helps.

You're probably have VISRETAIN set to 1 in your 1.dwg.
This means -- retain all the visibility settings, like
colors, on/off status etc. So 1.dwg 'remembers' all the
settings and it doesn't matter what you do with 2.dwg.
You may get rid of this behaviour by setting VISRETAIN
to 0 in 1.dwg and reopening it.

You can not use Word as a text editor- I've tried. You may, however, use
WordPad as an editor. Under preference's miscell. tab find the word
"internal" and replace it with the pathname of the *.exe file you wish
to use for your ascii text editor. AutoCAD will create a temporary file
and open it each time to use it as the text swap file. It still is an
unacceptable solution, though, as it will not support indents, or column
formatted text, nor even full justification.

after a few run-ins like your own, we switched to HP. I now have two HP
printers which have actually broken 100,000 sheets on a single fuser.
And the print quality is still excellent.

Subject: LITE FOR WIN 95 PLOTTING PROBLEM
From: Russel Hayes
Date: Sun, 8 Dec 1996 23:01:34 GMT
Happy holidays :-)
I'm running 4 workstations with ACADlt FOR WINDOWS 95, and one
workstaion with r13 c4 on Novel Netware 3.12. Our postscript
printer (TI microlaser) works fine and set as the default
printer in win 95.
My problem is: when we plot to the pen plotter (graphtec 2105E)
which is the LPT2 port an error message sayes "can't find
port". And when we plot to a file (LPT2.plt) which is how
we've always done it sa ys "cant't open file".
Every thing is set the same as r13 which works fine. I can't
figure this out can some one guide me towards a possible
solution???
Thankyou Very Much:

You could just give up Autocad and use Archicad - 3d from the start and
much easier to use. Rnedering's a bit crude, but with the Artlantis bolt
on very good; It also exports easily to MAX if you need serious
rendering. It just costs a bit.

I have uesd the Ditto easy 3200 for about 6 months now with no problems
until this week. I regularly backup my workstation every week or so.
This week this error message appeared: "Tape is formatted and readable,
but there are invalid characters in the header, do you wish to format?"
or something along those lines. Any idea what happened?

You are making a HUGE mistake!!
Autocad 12 for the Mac runs unbelievably slow! (I was forced to use it
at an office I worked at for a short time - one of the reasons I left
that office was Autocad's slow performance on the Mac.) I'd compare it
to running Autocad 12 for DOS on a 386. Unless you are purchasing this
for a hobby, or small drawings, I'd recommend buying Autocad 12 for Dos
or Windows - even if you have to buy a new computer! Even a cheap 486
with 8 megs of RAM would do better than the Mac! If you don't want to
buy a new PC, try a different CAD package. The 2 just do not go together
well.
Autocad 12 for the Mac will not run on Power PCs, and Autocad 13 is not
available for the Mac at all.
Good luck,

Has anyone heard of (or seen) a delphi 1.0 component to read and
display AutoCAD's DWG files?
I need to be able to display at least R12 DWG's for a system I
am putting together. I could do it using OLE but that ends up
using too much resources.
