Hi fellow Vital Lisp users! I updated my Vill page at http://xarch.tu-graz.ac.at/autocad/bi4/#vill and the utils at ftp://xarch.tu-graz.ac.at/pub/autocad/ViLL Better help support: I created some .CNT files to be put into the HELP dir. to allow searching through all 3 files (vlx- funcs + Autolisp funcs) How to custimize and improve the al.hlp ([MAP] section) Some scripts I use to create Winhelp for all your Lisps fully automatic (for cash) Benchmarks Comparing plain AutoLISP, ADS, acomp and Vill (no ARX and Lisp2C, and only the slow ADS-Lisp interface) mapcar fix improves the mapcar speed 40% I'm currently testing ViLL in full Common Lisp mode (not only AutoLISP) and its really great! (in fact its a CL dialect with CLOS called LPP) Hope my programs will get more intelligent with full lisp. :) And reverse engineering is much more fun with an interpretative approach. Lerch Bates is a world wide leader in vertical transportation, with many offices throughout the united states. The main office is located in Denver, Colorado, and employs about 30 people. We are considering networking all of these workstation and this is where we are left asking the question Windows NT or Novel? What is the better network software? Which will allow us the easiest internet presence, ie ftp, e-mail, and home page? Which will not require a full time network administrator? Which one should we buy? Now to add more confusion to a complicated situation, about one third of us are already on a novel network and another third on a unix system. We do not however want to continue with novel (the unix will be run off of either network os) if NT is better, we are will to scrap it and start over. We just want the best network environment possible. thanks troy lbna075@ix.netcom.comReturn to Top

In this contest between MicroStation and AutoCAD, neither one would win, because the users have already determined the winner in their minds. Depending on your needs, each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. Yes, it is annoying in MicroStation to have a finite design plane, but it does make extremely large files possible and tolerable. Yes, it is nice to have extremely fine point control, but take it to the extremes and find out how well it works (try a number smaller than 10 to the -32 power). I have found that it is best to understand the tools available to me, and to choose the best one for the application. I wouldn't choose a hammer to put screws in, even though it may work. Is there any way to explode a block inserted with attributes and keep the information, instead of the tags showing up? This was a shocking discovery for me; I inserted some blocks with numerical attributes, and wanted to use them for trimming purposes. I was informed that the blocks are "not a valid edge", so I exploded it; to my surprise, all of the attribute information was replaced with the tags of the attributes. Is there anyway around this? To the same end, sometimes I need to extend lines within these blocks, but I cannot alter the blocks without exploding them, so its really a vicious circle. Autocad LT 95 so LISP will not help me at all. Any info helpful, ******************************** "Never laugh at live dragons..." J.R.R. Since you have not posted any code, I have to make a lot of assumptions which usually get's me in trouble. If yoy are imbedding lisp code in the dcl button code, try using a function call insted; Imbeded code; (that's what I call it) (ACTION_TILE "radio_ok" (PROGN(SETQ rad_ok(ATOI $value))(IF (= ... Function call; (ACTION_TILE "radio_ok" "(DoRadioOk)") then ; (DEFUN DoRadioOk() (SETQ rad_ok(ATOI(GET_TILE "radio_ok"))) (IF (AND(= rad_ok 1)(= rad_other_row 1)) (PROGN (ALERT "Option not allowed.") (SET_TILE "radio_ok" "0") ) ) ... ... ) This makes it easier to write and debug, for me anyhow. I have blocks created by a civil engineering application with and attribute specified to 3 decimal points. Our drafting standards require this block attribute to be displayed to 2 decimal points. I have tried redefining the block with UNITS set to 2 decimal points (using the lisp ATTREDEF supplied by Adesk), however the attributes carried over remain displayed at 3 decimal points. If anyone knows of a way to round off an attribute in a block, other then editing them individually, I would be gratefull. You need to plot to a file, and then use the AUTOSPOOL feature to automatically submit the file to a queue. This is detailed in the manuals, (there's also a tech doc on Autodesk's web site) but essentially, you set up a suitable batch file (dependant on your network) to send a file to the network print queue, this is called via an environment variable called ACADPLCMD in the DOS version. I've never used Autocad's Unix port, so I can't help on that one I'm afraid. Paul Taylor, Computer Systems Manager WSP Consulting Engineers, Tadworth, Surrey, UK http://www.wspgroup.com

I'm running R13C4A under NT4.0(SP1) and find that inconsistently (though usually) when I try to save a file which I have opened, acad complains that the file is read only. If I create a new file, I can only save it once before I get this error dialog. This happens on both my local drives and network drives. Unfortunatly, it does not happen everytime (but most of the time) which shouts out "BUG" to me. Any clues would be appreciated. mailto:loeb@microtech.comReturn to Top

When you open a new drawing you'll have all of these available without having to run a separate routine. Where Lu's suggestion is to advantage is when working on existing drawings that may not have the appropriate items defined or in case someone has purged a drawing before the line types or layers were used, in which case they would be wiped. TC wrote: >Can AutoCad r13 get text to 'lay' on curved surface while conforming to >the curved plane? First, what I understand to be your question - is it possible to create letter forms (text) on the surface of something like a cylinder. The short answer is yes, the long answer is not by direct editing commands within AutoCAD. > Is there a lisp routine for this? Not to my knowlege. What I would do to accomplish this is: Assuming the surface on which you want the letters to appear is a cylinder, draw a line from the center of the cylinder perpendicular to the cylinder surface. Array that line with as many instances of line as you have letters. You'll need an outline font for the rest. Using DVIEW/POINTS select the first perpendicular line at the "select objects" DVIEW prompt. Set the target point as the endpoint at the cylinder center and the camera point as the "outter" end. Exit the DVIEW command, then use the UCS/VIEW option to set the UCS parallel to the screen. Then ZOOM/PREV to get back to a point where you can see what you're doing. With your outline font, place the first letter of the string of letters that go on the cylinder at the outer end of this first line. If you use mid/center justification it should lie perpendicular to the face of the cylinder. Now using the same technique to set the UCS, move to the next line and place the next letter, and so forth around the cylinder. The letters will not be spaced or "kerned" correctly but you can adjust them with the Rotate command usning the center of the cylinder as the center of rotation. Now if you have a way to explode the outline fonts, or if you have a third party font package that uses letters in block forms, you can extrude them to create solids. Going a few steps further, once you've gotten to that point, copy your original cylinder in place, and subtract it from all the letters. Pick all the letters as source objects and subtract the cylinder from them. If you want to take it to it's sublime end, create another cylinder with a radius equal to the original cylinder plus the thickness you want the letters to be. Copy this cylinder and scale it up sufficiently to be well beyond the outer most extents of the letters. Subtract the inner (smaller) cylinder from the larger, then subtract the resulting hollow cylinder from each of the letters. I didn't say it would be a pretty solution, but it's a solution! (grin) Now - if you don't have a font package that will produce the block letters, send me your drawing file and indicate clearly where the letters go and I'll do it for you. Also, I can still see the Dsize, which is on the identical >layer. Indeed, the command sequences you show will thaw and turn on all layers. What bothers me about this is that you seem to be inserting an A size title block in a drawing that already has a D sized title block in it. (being able to see the D size). Start with a *new* drawing and don't specify a prototype. Totally clean and unfettered. Now insert your A size title block sheet into this one. What do you get when you do this? Chris has a good point about checking the environment in which the A sized title block was created. Open this one up and make sure it was laid out in model space and the dimensions are correct. Try (in a *new* drawing) drawing a rectangle the size of your A sheet (doing so in model space, tilemode=1). Open a new drawing and go to tilemode=0, paperspace and xref or insert the latter. It should come in at the same size you drew it if you use default scaling of 1 for both x and y. In the drawing where you can see the D title block but not the A, erase the D border and do a zoom extents to see what you have. Is there any possibility that the A size sheet and the D size sheet reference the same block definition? Calling all AutoCAD wizards! I do not own or use AutoCAD (yet) but I would like to know the following: Can I paste .wmf files into AutoCAD from the clipboard as editable objects? I have a program that uses .wmf files for the graphics but it won't export them. I can copy them to the Windows clipboard, then paste them into Corel Draw! to edit and manipulate. Could I do this with AutoCAD? Please respond via e-mail as I do not subscribe to this group. Thanks kindly to all! GordonReturn to Top
