I use a combination of MS Word and Excel to make a columinzed list of
file names so I don't have to type them all. Can make a 100 drawing
script file as above in about 2 minutes.

Time will tell but I think this has a chance to be a good thing.  If 
anything, Softdesk was the one spread way too thin, not Autodesk.  I think 
this gives Autodesk a big leg up in being able to provide an affordable 
"Support" product based out of Henniker.  It certainly is interesting!

I would like to transfer autocad files to another computer rather than
making prints and sending the print through the mail.
How do I send files through the modem to another computer.  Do both 
parties have to be on the internet to do this??

Has anyone heard of a c4/c4a release of ACADR13 for the DEC Alpha
running Windows NT 3.5 or 4.0?
We were asked to participate in a beta program for such release but
declined at the time.   Since then I have not received an update CD with
c4 for the DEC Alpha and NT.   I am currently trying to run c3 on a DEC
Alpha with NT 4.0 and I'm getting "FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Exception".
I know the graphics systems in NT 4.0 were modified and I've had a bunch
of programs that have needed updates.
Your comments are appreciated.

You could change the line type to continuous, set the width to the
spacing
you want between the double lines, and turn fill off.  This would give
the
appearance of two lines.  You'll want to use a lisp routine to change
the
line widths globally.

I am looking for a basic landscape package that works with AutoCAD.
Ideally, this package will be a stand-alone system that reads and
writes  either .DWG or .DXF files, works under Windows or Win95, and
costs around $300.
It should draw trees, bushes, etc. - but no fancy calculations are
required.  It should not require AutoCAD to work.
Any ideas or leads would be appreciated.  Please email and post as my

Greetings:
	I installed AutoCAD r12 for Win3.11 to work in Win95.  It worked 
fine for a while and then it game me the problem you'll see in the 
attachment.  It seems that for some reason a double crosshair has come 
up instead of the usual single crosshair.  It behaves funny and I can't 
erase stuff.  If I try to erase something, a single vertical line 
replaces the crosshair and no matter where I click it picks the same 
entity every time.  Attached is a .gif showing the problem:

We dim in MS so when we update and stretch something, the dimension 
updates automatically.  We also make sure dims are on a "dim" layer so we 
can remove them if we want; or Freeze the dim layer in the base dwg 
BEFORE xrefing... though if you'll never be using the dims in the 
secondary dwg; and you don't mind the hassle of re-dimensioning the base 
dwg if you change it; your solution would work quite well.

Use the Circle command with the 3P option. For each point, use the TAN
object snap to select the line.

You might want to read the thread called "Autocad R13 cannot draw

I don't have a problem with the way dimension units work in R13, it's
just the lack of backwards compatability that's annoying. In past
releases, backwards compatability was an important consideration to
accomodate 3rd party developers (at least that's what I always heard).
That doesn't seem to be the case in R13.
It's not a huge deal, you just adapt and go on but it's kinda
frustrating when you have done something one way and then find out it
doesn't work anymore.

I think it's a wrong way. Though you can "explode" text with my LISP-routine
PLINETXT.LSP or with a shareware XLSP.LSP (or some other one) and then trim
every HATCH-line, but it's much easier to draw panels and shields with any
Windows based soft, which supports simple overlapped graphics and background
filling, e.g. Corel Draw, MS Word and many others.

As far as I know, this is only possible in Rel 13 under Win95. It is
certainly not possible in Win3.1, and I didn't think it was possible
in Win3.11

ACAD
AutoCAD Release 13 will remind the user during the 30 day grace period
that an authorization code will be required.  If an authorization code
has not been entered during the 30 day grace period, AutoCAD will
terminate when starting up with the message "Not authorized to run on
this machine."   The solution is to obtain an authorization code from
Autodesk Customer Service and reconfigure AutoCAD to enter the auth
code.
The following explains how to reconfigure AutoCAD Release 13 for
Windows:
Set your system clock back 1 month.
Start AutoCAD by double-clicking on the Reconfigure AutoCAD icon. You
will be prompted on whether to change configuration settings. Answer
Yes, and then choose option 7. Configure Operating Parameters. Next
choose option 13. Authorization. You will be prompted to enter the
authorization code at this point
Reset your system clock to the correct date.
Reconfiguring AutoCAD Release 13 for DOS
To enter the authorization code, start AutoCAD for DOS using the
appropriate batch file with the "-R"  reconfigure option in order to
go into Operating Parameters menu. Example:

Note: You must include a blank space before the "-r" parameter.

Can anyone tell me, where I can get information about the hardware best
to use with AutoCAD 13? 
Is a Pentium Pro 200 better than a PowerPC? And how big is the
difference towards a much cheaper Pentium 166?
At the moment we have a Pentium 133 with 128 MB RAM but with Drawings
with many filled Patterns it take a real long time (about 20 minutes) to
load the file. The file has on the disk a size about 20 MB and in the
menmory about 150 MB. We are using Windows 3.1.
Does anyone know, if it will run under Windows NT or Windows 95 much
faster? And if so, how much faster? If we change our hardware, will it
then take much less time then now?
Or has anyone some other idea how to minimize the time needed to encrypt
the filled patterns?

Hi,
I have had the same problem under NT. There are two fixes to this. One
is via a batch file:
PLOT.BAT
@echo off
copy %1 //SERVERNAME/QUEUENAME
delete %1
Put this file in c:\r13\com\support\
In options/preferences/misc tab/plot spooling you need to add:
c:\r13\com\support\plot.bat %s
The other fix is with a utility SPOOLTOOL, which I have attached.
Quite nice if u use more than one plotter

We had a similar problem, with a similar setup. It seems that Acad
R13c4 and Win95 (or maybe everything and Win95) have some weird
plot/print problems. Anyway what it seems like I have to do when
configuring a plotter in Acad is always choose "15. System Printer..."
and just make sure the configuration I want to use in Win95 "Printers"
is setup correctly and set as default. It's a pain and so far I have
not been able to get this HiPlot 7100 to work, but I am able to
print/plot to an HP Laserjet 4 as well as an HP DesignJet.
anyone know of a better way?

We have had/are having the same problem. The following was posted

Besides that if you do get the text, then you can select the text and
the panel outline to be hatched so that the hatch will fill in the
panel and leave the text unfilled.

As far as I know, you can't open multiple dwgs within a single session
of AutoCAD R13 under any  DOS/Win OS (don't know about Unix) and you
couldn't do it in R12 either.
In R12 Windows, you can start up to 3 separate sessions of AutoCAD. In
R13, you need to be in a 32-bit OS (Win95 or NT) in order to start
more than one AutoCAD session.
But in each session, you can only have one dwg file open at a time.

DataCAD would be suited for this.  It's developed by the same folks who 
make CADKey.  It retails for around $500.00.
BTW, this would be more suited to the alt.cad group.  Also, there is a 
comp.cad.cadkey group that you may wish to use if you have any questions 
about DataCAD.  Some of the CADKey folks hang around there from time to 
time.

As a rule of thumb (not always true), when ever a machine reboots itself, 
it's generaly a hardware issue.

The you can build a list in AutoLISP that contains each of the LAYERS 
with the (ai_table) function whick is defined in AI_UTILS.LSP which comes 
with AutoCAD.

Returns a list of items in the specified table.  The bit values have the
following meaning:
 0  List all items in the specified table.
 1  Do not list Layer 0 and Linetype CONTINUOUS.
 2  Do not list anonymous blocks or anonymous groups.
        A check against the 70 flag for the following bit:
                 1  anonymous block/group
 4  Do not list externally dependant items.
        A check against the 70 flag is made for any of the following
        bits, which add up to 48:
                16  externally dependant
                32  resolved external or dependant
 8  Do not list Xrefs.
        A check against the 70 flag for the following bit:
                 4  external reference
 16 Add BYBLOCK and BYLAYER items to list.

Michael,
What you are trying to do is possible in DCL/LISP.  What specificaly are 
you having trouble with?
In DCL there isn't a radio_array just radio_column & radio_row.  You'll 
need to have to of these columns/rows.  Each row/column on it's own 
handles toggling on/off the buttons but you'll need to construct the LISP 
code to tie the two of them together in their interaction with one 
another.  An example of this is the Parent/Child dimension families in 
the DDIM dialog.
I had trouble with DCL when I first started with it until someone helped 
me along with it.  DCL isn't very hard at all but the documentation could 
go a little further into explaining the structure and operation of DCL 
better than it does.
Any question you have, just fire them away.

We have had/are having the same problem. The following was posted
earlier:

This is a known problem and use the DWGWRITE system variable inside 
AutoCAD and set it to 1.
You can also add this setting in the Acad.lsp file as a startup.

Unfortunately, due to a limitation of WIN32S, it's not possible for
AutoCAD to run multiple sessions under Windows 3.x.  However, if your
friend updates their operating system to Windows 95 or Windows NT, they
will be able to run multiple sessions (no hard coded limit to the number
of session).

Subject: JetPro V100 lineweights ?

I've got the Houston Instruments JetPro V100 and AutoCAD R12.
R12 has no specific driver for the HI JetPro V100, but it is a 17" wide
media, 360 dpi mono inkjet with rollfeed attachment installed.
I'm having difficulty producing multiple lineweights. I need at least four
different lineweights: object,dimension,section lines, and centerline.
Can someone please recommend which of the R12 ADI plotters I should try to
emulate and describe a proven method of printing multiple lineweights with
the JetPro V100?
The JetPro V100 itself can be set to interpret HPGL, HPGL/2, DMPL, and raster.
Any advice is appreciated,  paticulary including references to URLs where the
JetPro V100 has been discussed once upon a time. :-)

Hello everybody,
Do you know about a shareware program, that can read plotfiles 
(HPGL) produced by autocad, and send it to an inkjet printer, with 
possibilitie to produce tiling (a unique drawing occupying many 8 1/2 X 
11 sheets)?
I have tried TRANSPLOTTER, which functions very well, but without 
capacity of tiling.
I have also tried PRINTGL, that can produce highres graphics, with 
possibilities of tiling, but this program has a so great number of 
parameters that i can't still configurate it to function properly after 
1 year of try :(
I search an easy program that can read and print tiled drawings. Tell me 
if you know about one please!
