Subject: laserjet 6P dithers colors when printing (solved)
From: jbower@ix.netcom.com(John Bower)
Date: 7 Jan 1997 06:59:18 GMT
My laserjet HP IIP (2P) died a few weeks ago so I replaced it with HP
6P printer. Well yes the 8ppm and 600 dpi are nice, but I can't get it
to print lines as solid. They are dithered. I did not have this problem
with the HP IIP. Yes I know about the dither command. That makes no
difference. Only the white lines (I use a black background screen
setting) print solid.
This was solved by setting the pens all to 7 (the white or black pen) I
got this idea from S. Yoder in Article: 54452 (jan 2, 1997). Thanks

Well, you can avoid working with PS if you do like this:
1. Build your model as usual
2. With VPOINT, display top, front, axonometric, etc view
3. For each view, create a local coordinate system: UCS View
4. Block the model, and OOPS
5. Repeat 2-4 for each desired view
6. Return to UCS World
7. INSERT the blocks
8. Ready for dimensioning, plottning

Subject: SHP or SHX files to DXF?
From: "Andrew Thompson"
Date: 7 Jan 1997 02:56:06 GMT
Hi,
I have a project which requires us to take Autocad DXF line diagram files
and then import them into our programme.
This works fine, except, the symbols which the DWG file refers to in an SHX
file simply appear as symbol numbers in the DXF file. As a consequence when
we display the DXF file there are big gaps where the symbol should be.
What I would like to do is leave the symbol numbers in the DXF file, but be
able to read the relevant symbol draw information from another "Symbol DXF"
file.
So, can you convert an SHP or SHX file into a DXF file, whilst retaining
the Symbol number references?
Grateful for any help and your replies.
Thanks,
Andrew

Subject: Re: WinNT4/ Acad13 Capacity problem
From: paxford@pacbell.net
Date: Mon, 06 Jan 1997 04:31:33 GMT
Hi,
For that size drawings more RAM is essential.
I've had to upgrade from 64 MB to 128 MB ram to load drawings and
xrefs half that size in a reasonable amount of time. I'm running a
PPro 150 under NT3.51WS and 13c4a. I also noticed an improvement
after re-installing NT after the memory upgrade (but I don't know why
that should be needed, but the system runs "smoother.")
I think I could have gotten away with total ram of 96MB as the
"status" command indicates typically 60-70 MB used with my 9 MB
drawings. It starts to swap when I get down to about 10MB free.
Overall, 128 MB ram really made the system much nicer to use, and I
think it's an economical upgrade considering the number of hours I
spend in front of the computer.
Good Luck,
Paul Axford

Your findings seem to corroborate the results produced by
CADMark, which suggests that WHIP is the slowest. More than
one person I've spoken to on this says that the WHIP driver
was specifically "tweaked" to get good results on the brain-
dead CADalyst benchmark.
You can find detailed benchmark results on my website at
the URL below, along with a copy of CADmark, which is the
benchmark that CADENCE Magazine uses.

Thank You, unforntunately this did not help. Our client has been
reinstalled and Acad but this has not changed the Win 95 station. Other
stations using DOS continue to find the lock as normal. Again the Win 95
will find the lock with DOSMON
Thanks anyway

We are using Win NT 3.51 but I'm assuming 95 would be the same.
When adding a new plotter choose number 15 from the list, go with all
the defaults and give it a name "System Printer" ,save settings.
Now under your Plot Configuration window
Choose the "Device & Default Selection" button and then the "Change
Device Requirements" button.
This will give you access to all the printers and settings that is
installed in your Windows System.

You can certainly incorporate these kinds of elements in your Mechanical
Desktop models, but you'll have to create them in AutoCAD's native solid
modeler,
since Desktop can't "fillet" two cylinders to each other.
I hope this helps.

Either of these will work. Last I was aware, when you bought r13, you
get r12 too so you have a choice which you want to run.

Get a minimum 17" mnitor. The larger the better.
The HP designJets are a good choice for Plotters.

The "concepts" of drafting would be helpful; but a good tech. school will cover that for you first. As far as needing to know design concepts
of the particular field you are in, that is the difference between a drafter and a designer. In my field (civil), in my part of the country
("rural" CA), you can expect to start at $7 / hr as a drafter (to about $12); and start at $12 / hr as a designer (to $20 and up).

more than one plane will require using multiple sweeps (each constrained to
the previous).
If you need more detailed infomation, or an example, please email me
directly.

Subject: Q: Acad for WinNT crashes while opening file
From: Heiko Ploehn
Date: Tue, 07 Jan 1997 17:26:31 +0100
Hi,
I've a problem with my Acad (13c4) for WinNT 3.51. If I open it by
double-clicking on the symbol it comes up and I can draw in a new
drawing. If I then want to open another existing drawing, by using the
open command, Acad asks the name of the drawing, clears the screen,
beeps one time and _crashes_. I can not find the reason for this. I
installed it once again, because I thought this could help, but it
didn't. I checked the filesystem, if some files in the acad-area are
write-protected, there aren't any. It produces some dump-file, but I
don't learn something from this file. Does anybody know where the
problem can come from?
thanks in advance

How 'bout "AutoSketch" (by AutoDesk)? I've never used it, but it might
be worth investigating. The price is approx. $150, as opposed to $425 -
$500 for AtoCAD LT. However, AutoSketch was a Win 3.11 app last time I
looked. Don't know if a Win95 version is available yet. This is
available in computer stores (I saw it at "Best Buy" for $130), and
mail order.

Subject: multiple R13c4a sessions on NT4.0 WS- menu problem
From: Robin Belley
Date: Tue, 07 Jan 1997 23:36:48 -0800
Hi,
  I've installed R13c4a on NT4.0 the same as I've done in Win95.
When I try to do multiple sessions of Acad, the menu starts to bug.
I mean, all is ok with the first 3 sessions opened. But starting with
the fourth one and so on, the menu (always the same loaded) changes. The
icon are displaced to other position and when I click on them, it's not
the expected functions that are started. Example, in the fourth session,
clicking on the "zoom window" icon actually activates the file utilities
window. Some toolbars are working well and others don't.
Someone have an idea on that. In Win95, I used to work with 4 to 7
sessions at the same time. I don't know why now it isn't possible.
Thanks

Thanks in advance for any information on the use of the old Generic CADD
product on a network utilizing Windows for Workgroups and the DOS
Workgroup Connection. Specifically, are there any glaring problems with
implementing this configuration? It will be a small network of 3 DOS
workstations, 2 WFW workstations, a HP Design Jet 600 plotter, and an
Epson LQ-1070 dot matrix printer. The main purpose for the network is
to centralize file management with the intent of moving to a NT
configuration next year.

We have a Mutoh XP-511 and recently aquired the Windows 95 drivers
from www.mutoh.com. I don't know if they have the IP-500 drivers,
but check them out if you have not already done so.

DJD , :)
You can do it in many ways.
1 ) Say by writing in ACAD.LSP file the following. This is very simple and
can have many options like zoom extents etc.,
(defun c:cy() (command "copy" ))
(defun c:ex() (command "explode"))
(defun c:et() (command "extend"))
(defun c:f() (command "fillet"))
(defun c:cf() (command "chamfer"))
(defun c:z() (command "zoom"))
(defun c:zw() (command "zoom" "w"))
(defun c:ze() (command "zoom" "e"))
like this where cy , ex , et , f , cf , z , zw , ze are the commands
you will be typing inside autocad. You can learn about this in the
Autolisp manual or the book that is being mostly referred like
"Maximising Autolisp" . I also would suggest you to take a training in the
nearest Autodesk Training center. :)
2) You can do this by using the programs like recorder of windows or
keysaver sharewares.
3) You can customise the keyboards by using the DOS 's ANSI.SYS by
writing escape routines
4) You can do this in the Accelerator section of the menu.
Refer to the customisation manual that comes along with R13 . :)

I installed Calcomp DrawingBoard III on NT4.0.
Actually, be sure to do the following:
- download the latest driver for NT3.51
- install your new driver with the
"control panel - add/remove program" utility.
- start the calcomp tablet manager and remove all
the button assignment in the tablet area
(there's a mouse area and a tablet area).
So you have to assign all the buttons to NONE in the
  tablet area.
- close the tab manager and it's supposed to be ok
after that. For me it worked.
Now, my impressions. All my excuses but tablets suck.
I worked with calcomp tablet 2 years under DOS and it was
very good but now, with Acad Windows and all the icon on
the screen there's no need for an expensive tablet. What you
need is a good mouse (I use Logitech 3-buttons). It's faster and
easier and cheaper and funnier to use than the shit tablets with
their shit buttons always sticked or difficult to push and the
shit mouse sticking on the board due to dirt from your hand
when you perspire a bit...
You do what you want but now you know that a old user of
calcomp tablets is actually selling them and replacing them
for mouses.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Robin Belley

You should use the (distance ) function as
(setq di (distance p1 p2))
You will get the distance between the points now. :)

You can use the AutoCAD version R13c4 as it supports OLE 2.0 so that
you can cut and paste the excel spread sheet inside autocad and viceversa.
Take a look at the Demo of R13 at your nearest dealer place or download one
from the Autodesk web site.

Try using the RECOVER COMMAND and select the drawing file. Then WBLOCK this
drawing to some other name and continue working on it.

Dale,
It is always a better idea to save these icons you create in R13 as files
in the support directory and add the customised portion of the menu in the
acad.mnu file. This is important as Autocad overwrites the acad.mns , .mnr
and .mnc files whenever you load the acad.mnu file.
