Hi fellow netters,
I'm looking for a lisp routine that can translate layer names from one
system to another. E.g. from words to numbers -AIA f.ext to Sfb numbers.
I think I saw such a routine a couple of years ago, but I cannot find it
on Compuserve.
Pls mail me directly - these newsgroups are cumbersome.
I wish we still had the AutoCad listserver. :(

I'm pretty sure that ACAD application data on the VIEWPORT
entity cannot be modified using ARX, but I could be wrong.
In any event, did you trigger a regen in the viewport?
See the ads_setview() function for manipulating views
without using ads_command().

Same deal with LT95 - use cut and paste to import. Really annoying is that
all Redraws put the bitmap on top of any lines or entities, etc, making it
nearly impossible to "trace" on the screen. Anyone know a work-around for
this Bummer?

If all else fails you can do an end-around by converting the drawing to DXF
and importing it into a picture editor like Paint Shop Pro (my choice) or
HiJaak. Once in, you can Save it any any common pixel format.

AutoCAD is probably the only program that writes incompatible
bitmap files. Amazing, isn't it?
Get yourself a copy of PaintShop Pro, which can read the
.bmp's that AutoCAD creates, and saves to an wide range
of formats. PSP will also import .DXF files and rasterize
them.

XRecords are a general purpose mechanism for storing data
in AutoCAD's dictionary. Unlike XDATA, Xrecords do not have
the 16K size limit. They also can use any group codes.

Check out the trail version of p-spice from simtech. You can draw all
circuits and print them easily. Not to mention simulate and solve
them. I think the restriction on the trial version is the number of
transisters simulated in a circuit, but that shouldn't restrict
drawing them.

From: Fabrizio Croce

Hi All,
I was reading in this news group that to run Autocad R12 under windows,
the sentence ,device=c:\acad\pharlap12, had to be written in SYSTEM.INI
file under the [386enh] section.
What I did.
I tried to start from ACAD from the dos prompt, and the famous Fatal
Error appear. the exact text is the following:
ERROR: Unable to map physical memory to end of segment.mirogti 12(what
is my video card):Hardware not found, defect or not initialized.
Please correct display adapter/configuration inconsistency.
FATAL ERROR: Can't Start display driver
.... and the system bring me back to the dos prompt.
My system is a 486 dxII EISA 16 MB RAM w/ tablet, dual screen system
{20"screen (sony) and 14" (compaq)}
Do you have a solution??????!!!!
Any inputs will be appreciate.

This is a quite dirty way I often used, with previous ACAD version:
The dimension text size is related to the their text style.
This is also for text size: in fact when text scaling is needed, I used
to open a new drawing, change the text style definition and insert/load
the original drawing as exploded block. This unfortunately doesn't work
with dimensions. Then you need to delete and undo them one by one. If you
do so, they reappear with the new size. It's very dirty (and not so quick
if you have many) but I don't know a better way.

Subject: ACLT95 w/ HP DesignJet 600 Question
From: Dave Christensen

I have AutoCAD LT for Windows 95 trying to plot to a networked HP
DesignJet 600 plotter. Using the latest driver downloaded from HP
(PL120en.exe) , I am unable to specify the Size and Orentation in the
upper right corner of AutoCADs Print/Plot screen. This button is
"greyed out". Why? The Size is stuck on something like 15.22 x 10.22.
Any suggestions on how to get AutoCAD to recognize a larger format are

Has anybody found a way to make the Sentinel software, NSRVGX, run as a

run without someone having to manually start it up when we bring up the

Try our RNL.LSP - it renames all layers according to given table (simple
DOS file, OLDNAME-NEWNAME).

Forget the digitizer if you're using R13 for Windows! The toolbuttons
are so quick to use in my opinion that a 3-button mouse will work
better. It saves time if you don't have to take your eyes off the
screen.

Subject: SHP or SHX files to DXF?
From: "Andrew Thompson"
Date: 6 Jan 1997 02:22:34 GMT
Hi,
I have a project which requires us to take Autocad DXF line diagram files
and then import them into our programme.
This works fine, except, the symbols which the DWG file refers to in an SHX
file simply appear as symbol numbers in the DXF file. As a consequence when
we display the DXF file there are big gaps where the symbol should be.
What I would like to do is leave the symbol numbers in the DXF file, but be
able to read the relevant symbol draw information from another "Symbol DXF"
file.
So, can you convert an SHP or SHX file into a DXF file, whilst retaining
the Symbol number references?
Grateful for any help and your replies.
Thanks,
Andrew

Our program AutoBMP creates bmp image files from AutoCad drawings in
unattended batch mode - in an uncompressed format used by most other
programs.

I have a bunch of dimensions that are tolerenced differently. When I try

there a way to turn the update off for one command so I can arrange the

You must not be a small business owner in California. I paid the State
and Federal governments more (literallly) per week than I paid my
employee for the previledge of having an employee. My accountant told
me so, but, I didn't believe it. I do now!! I now, as before, deal
with subcontractors, some of whom I have learned of through this
newsgroup. I'm going to "donate" my WORTHLESS 2nd copy of AutoCAD to
the local high school and copy my first one to every computer from
here to there. F__K Autodesk!!! Let 'em sue me!

Go to a 3-button mouse!!
If you must use a digitizer get the 16 buttons
16 buttons will give you osnaps and a few commands
4 buttons on a digitizer is just not enough...but
here again I switched to a 3-button mouse
with left button as pick, center as enter,
and right button for popup osnap menu
with misc. commands on it as well!!
Toolbars in my opinion are a good replacement
for the need for a digitizer for command input.
If your needing a digitizer to use for "Digitizing
an Image" then go with Calcomp over Summa
cause they merged and it appears that they
are favoring the Calcomp line over Summa
but either work well. I'd like to make it perfectly
clear that this is my opinion and not the way
it has to be done so when the thread gets longer
and fewer parts of this post are used to express
a comment on the subject it won't appear that
I said something like "Yeah! get the digitizer with
the one button stylus pen they are great!!"
LOL...as it goes
Hmmm.... Plotters encad has a d-size plotter
for $2,500 e-size for $400 more.
Hp4m? i think MV but check on it. It uses 8 1/2x11
and 11x17 and is great for small plots...very fast with
memory in it!

Subject: Re: Net Sentinel
From: "John C. Suomi"

I have R13C3 with NT 3.51SP3 and a MicroSoft Resource Utility. I was able
to make it run as a service. I did try installing C4, but the utility
caused it to crash. I remember (?) seeing info on C4 incompatibility with
the utitlity on CompuServer AutoDesk Forum. If someone else knows how to
make C4 work, I would like to know.
Hope this helps.

And it CAN be changed. Use a HEX editor, find the current string in ASCII,
overtype with your new string (DO NOT CHANGE THE TOTAL LENGTH OF THE STRING,
INCLUDING BLANK SPACES), save to disk. If I remember correctly, the string is
filled out with blank spaces to the max length you could enter in the field.
I used to use XTREE for limited hex editing, but it's not available anymore.

The FOR command in DOS processes a command or a batch file to all files
in a directory very well. It goes something like this:
for %%a in (*.lsp) do call my.bat %%a
this will run the command (or substitute any DOS command for the 'call
my.bat) on each of the filtered (or use *.* for all) files.
