You can find these drivers at

installation instructions carefully, and you should have no problems. Good

Here in Canada (Alberta actually) we're in the middle of setting up a new,
limited company - CADtool Inc. (I hope you will be hearing a lot more about
it!). It has cost us $700 in direct out of pocket expenses, $300 of which
is a filing fee with the government that you can't get out of. This company
will also cost me a minimum of $100 per year to keep active etc. I don't
think I should have to do this just so that I can sell an asset that I paid
dearly for!
Autodesk has overstepped themselves this time!

Subject: R13C4 and WHIP Driver
From: "James R Colacino"
Date: 15 Jan 1997 02:26:01 GMT
I am having a problem with AutoCad R13C4 and the WHIP Driver under Windows
95. This driver worked till about a week ago and then started crashing ACAD
when I try to open a drawing! I have a dual boot Win NT 4.0 and Win 95 on a
Pentium Pro 200. I have no clue what happened but when I Use the windows
display driver, ACAD works, but when I use the WHIP driver it drops out of
ACAD completely. The only thing that I can think of that I did between the
time that ACAD worked with WHIP, and now is use Microsofts PLUS disk themes
for the desktop. What the heck is going on??

TYPE the MENU command at the command prompt and select the ACADFULL.MNU
at the c:\r13\win\support directory. Now you must be getting the PULL DOWN
menus. Now goto the TOOLS\TOOLBAR pull down menu and choose the toolbar
you want. Check also whether you have used the TOOLBAR command and give

Try having a look at PrintIt for Windows 95.
http://www.ozemail.com.au/~flxcomp
It can read HPGL & HPGL/2 and output to any windows printer, so you can
pick and choose what raster/vector output you want.

Conditions:
  ACAD R12 for Windows
  Windows system mouse
In ACAD.MNU (assuming that's the menu you're using),
find the ***AUX3 section. Replace ther first line after
***AUX3 with "^O" without the quotes (that's a caret
and the letter O).
Conditions:
  ACAD R12 for DOS
  3-button mouse
Find the ***BUTTONS3 section of your menu file and
replace the second line after ***BUTTONS3 with "^O"
without the quotes. For a two-button mouse, change
the first line after ***BUTTONS3.
Good luck,

Subject: De-compile lisp?
From: "Michael R. Moosmann"
Date: Tue, 14 Jan 1997 19:38:53 -0800
Several years ago, I had compiled several lisp programs. These programs
where used in Autocad 10. I now need to update several programs to work
with Autocad r13. My problem is that I no longer have the source code,
all I have are the compiled lisp files.
Does anyone have any idea where I can find a de-compiler that will work?

Subject: HELP! need to reconstruct .dwg
From: scott schmidt
Date: Tue, 14 Jan 1997 19:02:19 -0800
i have an autocad r12_c4 windows file that was damaged during a network
crash. autocad states that the drawing is not valid. "recover" does not
work. the data may all be intact, but the heading is now near the middle
of the file. is there a way to reconstruct the file? the .bak file is
the same way.
i do you a recent .plt file. could somebody please tell me if there
is a way to reconstruct a .dwg file from a plot file?
i guess it would be possible to scan a plot and retrieve some drawing
information.
i wish the data in the .dwg file could somehow be put back in order.
all help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I don't know how often you plot in color with your HP750C, but from my
experience you should plot something that use all the color cartridges
every two or three days at least, otherwise some nozzle will dry out.
In the first months we had our plotter, I was dumping color cartridge

For greatest durablity and longevity, find a service bureau that will burn your
data onto CD. Next I would suggest looking at either ZIP or JAZZ drives, or
other high capacity floptical disk storage. Not as high capacity as tape but
more flexible from the perspective of random restore. And quite fast as well.

Try this, open one big dwg file, as big as you can, zoom in to a small
portion, turn off all layers except current laye, and then turn on all
layers again, it's takes much more time to show up on screen, unless
you turn off the display list option, but it will disable the fast
zoom option and all the utility include birdeye .I do not use softengn
because I always need to turn on & off layers often. any suggestion to
inprove it?

Try this, with a big drawing file, zoom in into small portion, turn on
all the layer, then turn off all layers except current layer, it's
takes more time to show out, unless you switch off the display list
option, but you won't get a fast zoom anymore. for me I don't like

Our best results so far have been the .wmf option. Screen dumps (PrintScreen)
are the absolute last resort. They're bit maped and look horrid if you try to

I had an interesting experience today in that I received a slew of files from
another concern that I had to load and plot. Now most of my files are quite
large and I've never had much of a problem loading or regenerating on a P-Pro
200 with 128MB RAM. But these were hellaciously slow.
I've isolated what seems to be the problem in this case to the extensive use of
a room number block with several attribute tags. If I turn attribute display
*off* then the drawings hum right along - both in loading and in regenerating.
As for the progressive deterioration of your file loading times, do you have
ISAVEPERCENT set to 0? Saving the file with a larger than 0 value saves a lot of
undo info along with it and could increase the size making it load slower.
Are you using a digitizer and the Wintab driver? This is known to cause a
problem if you have more than one session open - you have to close the session
at the task list in order to eliminate the Acad instance and recover memory.
If you save the drawing, then re-boot the machine, is the load time
significantly longer the first time you load the drawing? This might indicate
that there is memory being sucked up by something that's only released when you
boot.
None of this is based on any scientific foundation - just observations over time
from the way my system acts occasionally.

You might also visit their website at:

If you download drivers, might be best to download them from the BBS.
Someone told me that the drivers he downloaded from the website contained

Try to insert at top of the ascii file of points the line:
_PLINE

...
then end the file with a blank line.
Go at AutoCAD prompt and type the AutoCAD command SCRIPT, select the
file and O.K.
Now you have the polylines.

Hi Patrick,
We had same kind of problem with R12c1/HPUX.
In HPUX (version 9, 10.01 or 10.10, can't remember that right now)
R12c1 just disappeares if you, for example, do the following
in the LISP code:
 (menucmd P6=FAILS_BIT)
(menucmd P6=*) ; display menu, at this point ACAD crashes
This worked ok on Windows 3.1, 95 and NT 3.51 with R12c4 for Windows.
I do not know how R13 for HPUX handles this...

Thanks to everyone who has offered help. I suppose at this
point, we should decide how to handle it. If there are to
be numerious sections, then perhaps one or more persons
could assume responsiblity for compiling info for each,
and then submit it to another person who would put it
together, index it, etc. The key is try to distribute the
effort uniformly so that no one person should be burdened
with more than any other.
As Dennis mentioned, in order to make the information
useful, each article would need to have a standard
header (article date, title, keywords, subject, related
platforms/versions, etc.).
So, post your suggestions and ideas on how to do this,
and let's do it.
Also, someone should notify Peter that we're interested
assuming responsiblity for the FAQ (I've tried, but have
not gotten a response from him). Hence, I'm not waiting
for his approval, I'd like to go forward with or without
his acceptance or participation.

Don't suggest using the ACADR13.LSP file, since this is
intended strictly for Autodesk applications, and if the
file is modified and a subsequent release is installed,
then the install program will not update it, which is
why many people have null function errors with DDINSERT.

I don't do the ADS thing, Javier, but the way you do it in AutoLISP .....
Say you selected the block with -
(setq e (entsel))
The first attribute entity name is returned by -
(setq e2 (entnext (car e)))
The next attribute entity name is returned with -
(setq e3 (entnext e2))
and so forth until (setq) returns nil indicating the end of the attributes for
that block.
This doesn't isolate the individual attribute your user selected. You would need
to have some means of testing each attribute value (group code 2) against that
which the user wished to edit.
If editing the attribute is the end desire, why not just use DDATTE attribute
dialog edit?

This question has probably been addressed already but my newsgroup
server has been down for some time and I haven't had a chance to read
anything. Does AutoCADc4a work with WindowsNT 4.0? If there are any
bugs are there any patches to look for? My company is upgrading to 4.0
and I want to get the scoop on this subject before I tackle the
installation. I am currently using NT 3.51 and everything works just
fine with my P5-120. I would greatly appreciate someones comments on
this subject.

*My* longshot on this one is that you reached the maximum number
of selection sets which may coexist. You have to set some of them
to nil before you can create any more.

Hi Autocad fans,
After some time of manual study and some trial and error
research I ask the question here...
I HAVE: A rectangualer 3D mesh
I want: to delete some of the outer mesh points.
The outer points are not part of my object of interest
and create weird effects when rendering the mesh.
What I want is a non-rectangualer digital (terrain) model.
Any wise people out there to tell me that it's not impossible?
Greetings from Italy

If you have R12 available, there's a lisp in the sample directory called
spiral.lsp which will do the job for you.
Let me know if you don't have it available.
Hope this helps,

I wish people whould stop doing this chain mail shit...
Read this and understand why it is illegal. Every time someone posts one
of these, I'm sending them this.

Chain Letters
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A chain letter is a "get rich quick" scheme that promises that your mail box
will soon be stuffed full of cash if you decide to participate. You're told
you can make thousands of dollars every month if you follow the detailed
instructions in the letter.
A typical chain letter includes names and addresses of several individuals
whom you may or may not know. You are instructed to send a certain amount of
money--usually $5--to the person at the top of the list, and then eliminate
that name and add yours to the bottom. You are then instructed to mail
copies of the letter to a few more individuals who will hopefully repeat the
entire process. The letter promises that if they follow the same procedure,
your name will gradually move to the top of the list and you'll receive
money -- lots of it.
There's at least one problem with chain letters. They're illegal if they
request money or other items of value and promise a substantial return to
the participants. Chain letters are a form of gambling, and sending them
through the mail (or delivering them in person or by computer, but mailing
money to participate) violates Title 18, United States Code, Section 1302,
the Postal Lottery Statute. (Chain letters that ask for items of minor
value, like picture postcards or recipes, may be mailed, since such items
are not things of value within the meaning of the law.)
Recently, high-tech chain letters have begun surfacing. They may be
disseminated over the Internet, or may require the copying and mailing of
computer disks rather than paper. Regardless of what technology is used to
advance the scheme, if the mail is used at any step along the way, it is
still illegal.
The main thing to remember is that a chain letter is simply a bad
investment. You certainly won't get rich. You will receive little or no
money. The few dollars you may get will probably not be as much as you spend
making and mailing copies of the chain letter.
Chain letters don't work because the promise that all participants in a
chain letter will be winners is mathematically impossible. Also, many people
participate, but do not send money to the person at the top of the list.
Some others create a chain letter that lists their name numerous times--in
various forms with different addressee. So, in reality, all the money in a
chain is going to one person.
Do not be fooled if the chain letter is used to sell inexpensive reports on
credit, mail order sales, mailing lists, or other topics. The primary
purpose is to take your money, not to sell information. "Selling" a product
does not ensure legality. Be doubly suspicious if there's a claim that the
U.S. Postal Service or U.S. Postal Inspection Service has declared the
letter legal. This is said only to mislead you. Neither the Postal Service
nor Postal Inspectors give prior approval to any chain letter.
Participating in a chain letter is a losing proposition. Turn over any chain
letter you receive that asks for money or other items of value to your local
postmaster or nearest Postal Inspector. Write on the mailing envelope of the
letter or in a separate transmittal letter, "I received this in the mail and
believe it may be illegal."
