Steve,
This is for sure caused by the Calcomp driver and creates a conflict
with the HP driver. Even I had the same problem with the Olivetti and
Hp drivers. You can try doing the following to avoid this conflict.
Load the Windows drivers of both the Calcomp and the HP in the
PRINT MANAGER of Windows. Set any one as Default printer .
Configure Autocad for SYSTEMS PRINTER . Now try using it. Now if you want
to use HP driver then goto the Print Manager and set the HP as default.
Switch back to Autocad . Now must be able to print it directly , without
any problem.
Please let me know if you have any more problems.

I don't think a readymade routine is available. But it can be written.

Sorry, I just could not let this post go by without comment.
What the ~!@#$%^&*( are you thinking? I thought I went to college, took
licensing exams and worked for a company that did this type of work for
a LIVING! I know that this is becoming a lost art in this day of
automation, prototypes and get it done the fast and easy way, but do it
yourself. O.K. here is an idea, sit down, think about it, research
existing nursing/healthcare facilities and design your own nursing
home. If you don't have the knowledge to do so on your own, hire
somebody who does.
If this doesn't seem to make any sense to you, let me know and I will be
glad to give you all the work I have done over the past 9 years.
I feel better now.

I am new to R13 and need to update a set of as-builts dwgs for work. My
question is can i edit the existing border and title block which is a
BLOCK and a LAYER that the other cad operator made, to suit my own needs
of a title block and border?
The next question can i use the new title block and border after i learn
how to do this operation, after you tell me how to do this, on all the
existing Dwgs without changing each of the 40 Dwgs. Is this the LINK
command? and how do i do this operation?

Subject: Saving Units Settings
From: psbesh@aol.com (Psbesh)
Date: 18 Jan 1997 20:11:32 GMT
I'm using AutoCAD R12 DOS & AutoCAD R13c4a Win95 on a Pentium 133, 32MB,
ELSA Winner 2000-PRO-X 4MB. All my drawings are made with Dimension Units
set as DECIMAL and with COORDS=1, and then saved. Within the last month,
any and all drawings re-opened now have the Dimension Units in
Architectural (ft/in/fractions) and COORDS=0. This is true in both R12 &
R13.
Have to stop & reset these to my preferences before starting work;
annoying and unnecessary to say the least!
Tried setting the prototype ACAD.DWG with my preferences and saving, but
no change.
Dealer can't reproduce my problem on his installation; suggested
re-installing software. Did this, but no change.
R13 Installation and Guides make no mention of this problem.
What have I overlooked? I feel that there is a simple answer that is
eluding me.

Subject: Can't set-up Prototype Drawing R-13c4
From: Spencer
Date: Sat, 18 Jan 1997 14:05:01 -0600
I recently set-up R-13c4 in WIN-95. (Was_Running Great)
I also set-up Internet Utilities. (Haven't had time to play with yet)
The last thing I remember doing before things went a-rye; I exported a
file to 3DS (3DSOUT).
Now, When I go to open a new file, I get a command prompt line [Enter
Name of Drawing:] What's missing is the dialog box to Find, Browse, and
set-up Prototype Drawing.
I downloaded most recent McaFee. (No Virus found)
I reinstalled R-13, but not Internet Utilities.
I suspect that Internet Utilities may be the culprit, but I hadn't been
using it when the problem came-up.
Before I unistall Utilities, I'll throw this out to anyone who has an
idea.
Thanks for your time!!!

Most likely the problem is a missing DLL, or a DLL
that isn't in the Windows search PATH.
Check your system and look for the file WHIPTK.DLL.
If it is missing, that is your problem, try getting
a fresh installation off the Autodesk web site.
If it exists, try moving the file to your
\windows\system directory or your c:\r13\win\ directory.
If that still doesn't work, the problem might be with
the MFC or Runtime dll's. If you're still stuck, I can
try and track down what those other DLL's are...

Hmmm. Is the Microsoft Plus theme you chose a Hi-Color
background? If so, are you running your display adapter
in 256 color mode?
If so, I think the problem is that the Plus pack changes
some of the color definitions of the 20 "standard" windows
colors. Whip might be depending on the first 10 and last
10 colors in the hardware palette to be the Microsoft
"standard" colors. When you pick certain Hi-Color backdrops
when running in 256 color mode, these standard colors are
changed, thereby confusing the Whip driver.
Solution: use only 256 color backgrounds (or no background
at all) when running your video card in 256 color mode.
Otherwise you can reconfigure your display card to run
in a higher color mode (if your card has the memory)--
though this will make whip run slower since it has more
color information to process when drawing.

Tony, you say that the other blow away WHIP's performance.
However, Mathew's question was if there were a way to speed
up REGEN. In his words "this is really the only time that
I see any significant 'down' time".
According to the statistics on Tony's web site for REGEN:
WHIP R13c4 NT3.51:	15.67 seconds
Softengine R13c4 DOS :	16.82 seconds
VMI AutoMate Pro R13c4 NT3.51:	15.35 seconds
So Mathew, if all you care about is REGEN, it might
not be worth the cost to go further than what you have...

My client is an engineering firm whose network is now 10 & 16mbps Token
Ring running Netware 3.12. My client is looking to upgrade the network
to Netware 4.11 and change over to 100mpbs Ethernet. They are running
diferent versions of AutoCad throughout the building, from version 11 to
version 13 for Win95. My client has concerns and questions as to
whether token ring or ethernet is the best network cabling to run it
on. He has heard different info from other venders telling him to keep
token ring, it will run better and with less collisions. Now I'm
telling him to go Ethernet because the new Ethernet is much better and
100mbps, well that's just a hell-of-a-lot faster than 16mbps token
ring!!!!! I'm a little confused as to why anyone would be telling them
to stay with an old technology that has not advanced in years and from
what I can see isn't going too ???!?!?!
My question is, Is there a difference in performance, with AutoCAD,
running AutoCAD on a token ring or ethernet network ???? And if so,
what are the differences to AutoCAD and which is better ????
Thanks

In order for an application to run faster on an MMX it has to be
written to run on a MMX. I read an early bechmark-- Sorry I cant
remember for what product-- but the product was one of the first MMX
releases and it ran faster on a stock P Pro than the 200 MMX!!!!
The only benefit of the MMX to the CAD world will be that the pentium
200's will drop in price. Spend your money elswhere when it comes to

Yes definitely, I am using same printer.
Just configure as standard system printer.

Jason, does your benchmark just test Pans and Zooms?
If all you care about is viewing (pan/zoom), I've seen little difference
between the included WHIP and the Soft Engine (especially under Win95
and
NT).

It depends on what you want to do.
To use Autocad to generate DWF files, you don't have to be connected
to the internet.
To author your own Web pages you can use Netscape Gold without being
connected to the internet.
To browse the internet or to publish your own work you need a
connection.
The problem with Prodigy and AOL is that they have their own
default browser.
However, I think they both support a TCP/IP stack (at least AOL does)
so you should be able to use Netscape with it by changing the
configuration.
(I read some instructions on AOL on how to do this a long time ago).
The other consideration is that if you want to publish DWF files, your
internet service provider needs to define the DWF MIME type. You might
need to get AOL to do this if they haven't. (All they normally need
to do is type a single line into a table-- no big deal, if you can get
them to do it).

Yes, the Autocad-side of the Internet Publishing Kit comes with
two ARX applications. One of them allows you to "Open" or
"Insert" a DWG from the Web into your running Autocad.
The Web-Insert command sounds like what you want. [Not everything
in the Internet Publishing Kit has to do with DWF].
I'm not sure if you get the Web-Open-DWG and the Web-Insert-DWG
commands with the free WHIP! tools on Autodesk's web server, you
might need to get the actual Internet Publishing Kit CD-ROM.
Check out the web site to see what you can get for free...

Brian The first thing to think about is cableing that will be used in
the future. The answer is Catagory 5. Cat 5 can be used for 100 E and
ring so you can't loose.
E 100 is much faster than ring, and is reasonably cheap. Go E 100 if all
your machines can run 100. They must be able to run PCI nic cards to
get the speed performance. If a department has older PC's you can
segment them on a 10 meg ethernet segment just fine but still run CAT 5
for future 100 meg service.
Also I know people who have run ring on a 100 meg ethernet network. The
2 do mix but only in the 100 meg arena. Personally I have never tried
this but you could look into this as an option.
Bottom line 100 meg Ethernet is faster and more scaleable.

That can not be done since LISP is reloaded/reset each time a drawing is
loaded. What can be done is create a script file to load the drawings
and add to the script a lisp program to run;
The following is an example of a script to open drawings and add title
block data to a database. For what it is worth, the script was
generated by a lisp program also.
..OPEN Y ; open command with quit currrent
D:\DWG\10131\06217	; drawing to open
(LOAD "P5000") ; load lisp program
(P5000addData NIL)	; run lisp program
..OPEN Y
D:\DWG\10131\06220
(LOAD "P5000")
(P5000addData NIL)
..OPEN Y
D:\DWG\10131\06222
(LOAD "P5000")
(P5000addData NIL)

Subject: Cooperative CAD Advertising
From: imtinfo@ix.netcom.com (Scott C. Carter)
Date: Sat, 18 Jan 1997 20:44:31 GMT
Dear fellow members,
Do you want a free banner advertisement of your company on my cad link
page at http://www.webcom.com/imt/wwwcad.html?
You have seen these banner ads...they are everywhere on the internet,
and they cost an arm and a leg to be included on a web page.
I am proposing the inclusion of two (2) banner ads, (at no cost,..yes
free!), that will appear on the following page(s)...
http://www.webcom.com/imt/wwwcad.html
http://www.webcom.com/imt/wwwcadsw.html
http://www.webcom.com/imt/wwwcadds.html
http://www.webcom.com/imt/wwwcadsh.html
http://www.webcom.com/imt/wwwcadut.html
Here is the catch...
* You design the ad yourself (I don't have the time to do it)
* The ad MUST BE NO LARGER THAN 500 X 70 PIXELS (I would prefer ads
that are, or pretty close to, 500x70 pixels)
* The file must be in a .gif format
* E-mail the attached file to imtinfo@ix.netcom.com
* You must include the hyperlink text that is associated with image.
For example:

* I will notify you by e-mail when your banner ad will be posted.
* I would prefer ads that are CAD related, and link to a CAD related
website.
That's it...
Please e-mail me with questions.
Thank you for your time.

You can make your .dwg files available on the web. Come to our site and
download a free DWG/DXF plug-in for Netscape (or Explorer 3.0) to then
view them. Look for "Vdraft Internet Tools".

I've talked to AutoDesk about this, and all they did was thank me for
telling them. That was back with C2. For me, this is a major pain in the
neck. I hope AutoDesk listens. The R13 dimangle is not nearly as good as
the R12 angular. Fortunately, R13 lets you use the R12 angular.
Sometimes they do OK.

Subject: What's the best way to get 2D views from 3D Model?
From: adrianjl@aol.com (AdrianJL)
Date: 18 Jan 1997 23:49:02 GMT
I'm trying to get some different opinions on what is the best method to
dimension your 2D views in Paper Space from the 3D models that you create
AutoCAD R13. I know people do it different ways, and I want to get your
opinion and some of the pros and cons. Which is the best method?......
1) In Paper Space, create your viewports and then use the SOLPROF(c4)
command to create a 2D profile of the model, and then dimension the 2D
profile, or.....
2) In Paper Space, arrange your viewports just how you want them and
directly dimension the 3D model in Model Space, *NOT* using SOLPROF to
create a profile, or .....
3) Do you do it some other way?
The first 2 are the ones that I have played around with and some to be
some of the more common solutions to getting your 2D views from your solid
model, but how do you all do it? Please let me know!!!
Thanks,
Adrian Laveaga
