Re: Illegal Operation Shutdown message

Well, you've covered all the bases with your postings.
A few questions:
W3.11, W95, or NT?
r13c4a?
Were all the Softdesk modules installed on the same partition?
FAT (not NTFS) I hope?
How much hard drive space free after compressing?
When was the last time scandisk and defrag were run?
One drawing or many? Older drawings or new ones?
I'm afraid I don't have any specific answers to your problem, but hopefully some
of the questions I've mentioned may put you on the right track, or at least
eliminate any further potential problems.
Let me know what happens.

Dear Stewart,
Our HP2DXF supports the LB (label command) along with all the related
height/width
commands in HPGL. Please check our web site for a demo. The commercial version
is $295 and it has no size limitation.

Boy Steve, people like you really=20
PISS ME OFF !!!
How DARE YOU make any sort of implications regarding me and my=20
software licence agreement with a company with whom you have=20
absolutely no affiliation what so ever and by your own admission, no=20
knowledge at all of the terms of that agreement.
You are nothing but another low life, blood sucking software vendor=20
producing overpriced garbage and trying to cram it down the throats=20
of honest, hard working people trying to make a living with the crap=20
you produce. =20
If it wasn't for us end users Steve, evaluating the garbage you pump=20
out in real world applications you wouldn't have a market at all. We=20
provide the feed back that you NEED to fine tune your junk so you can=20
sell it at grossly over priced rates. That is if you listen to us at=20
all.
But in this case I wonder what the HELL you are doing here anyway. =20
I've looked at your home page and not only are you not affiliated=20
with the company that sent me the eval in the first place, you aren't=20
even affiliated with Softdesk. No, you aren't even affiliated with=20
Autodesk. Your company produces junk that runs under Microstation.
SO WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING ON AN AUTOCAD NEWSGROUP?
These newsgroups are here so the vast majority of us serious software=20
users can help each other work through the problems we encounter when=20
trying to use the over priced junk you software vendors produce.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN THIS WORLD IS MORE OVERPRICED OR OVER RATED=20
THAN CAD SOFTWARE.
NOTHING.
Last year I entered into a dialogue with Eagle Point. They sent me=20
an "eval". I went through the tutorial. No problem. Seemed nice to=20
me. So I entered a purchase agreement with them. Almost every=20
single drawing I tried to produce with that software gave me=20
problems. The software was FULL of bugs.
So this year I talk to Softdesk. I tell them about how thier=20
competition's software gave me problems and I want to try theirs. =20
They send me an "eval" and I work through the tutorial. No problem. =20
But when I work on a REAL drawing, that's when the problems begin.
I'll tell you right now Steve, I don't give a DAMN what your "eval"=20
software license says. Bring a copy of it down here to Texas and=20
I'll shove it down your throat!
Don't you EVER tell me that if I want "learn how a program works, go=20
see a demo and talk to existing users." If I have to make a $2,000=20
to $5000 investment in software that should be priced at $200 to $500=20
I have every right in the world to test this crap in real world=20
situations before I pay for it. =20
And if you have a problem with that then you better go back and=20
re-evaluate the garbage you are selling.
I apologize to the rest of you out there for getting so angry, but=20
I've really had it with jerks like this guy...
I feel much better now,
I think I'll go have a beer and relax.

Yeah - try PRINTGL, BUT I think the Mannesmann Tally listed in Printgl's
documentation is a line printer - not a plotter. Does that PIXY 3 plotter
thing emulate anything? PRINTGL will plot HPGL files on almost any printer
- Epson dot and stylus, Canon, IBM, all HP desk and laserjet, Protracer,
Jetpro, others. Also does a great job converting HPGL plot files to
bitmaps - terrific for the net - lineweights are reproduced accurately. In
any case the correct URL is:

Stephen,
you didn't say if you are using the DOS or Windows version.
Since you mentioned AutoCAD LT, I'll assume windows.
I have acadr12 win & a BJC-4550 on WinNT 4.0
The way that works best for me is to set the printer as 'System
Printer' using the CONFIG command in acad and things should work
properly.
Also, if you haven't yet, head to Canon's web site at:
http://www.ccsi.canon.com/care/download/bjprinters.html
to grab the latest driver for the BJC-4550. They have a driver for
acad 12 there at:
http://www.usa.canon.com/support/files/printers/bubblejet/SEAC1X14.EXE
and also they have updated win 3.x/95 drivers there that you'll
probably want.
About the faint lines. Not familiar w/ LT but in acad 12, click on the
Pen Assignments button in the PLOT dialog box and change the Pen Width
for the colors you use. Different printers use different widths, but I
use .003 (for light lines) to .010 (for dark lines)
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
Good Luck

I bought a DesignJet 330 last week. I looked at ads in a couple of CAD
magazines and also checked a number of web sites, including Off Broadway
Systems (www.ob.com, as I recall). Off Broadway appeared to have the
lowest price, offering an 8MB upgrade (for a total of 12MB) and free
shipping for $1,750.00, which was as low as I'd seen.
I then called California Surveying & Drafting Supply (916-344-0232),
which is close to home and with whom I've dealt before. They have a
price guarantee policy, and offered to match Off Broadway's price for
the same hardware (they ended up beating it by $5.00), so I bought from
them. (Off Broadway includes McNeel's PlotPack, which I didn't feel I
needed, but it might be a factor for some.)
It seems that the inkjet plotters are a commodity item now, so favorable
experience with a vendor may be more of a consideration than a
razor-thin price difference.

What hardware needed for AutoCAD?

Hello,
I have a question that some of you can answer (I hope).
If I want to work with let's say AutoCAD release 13, what kind of
hardware-specs do I need to work comfortable with AutoCAD?
The worksituation is a one-man business-unit in architecture, so I think
that a workstation based on an Intel chip is the best choice, because I
want to work with MS-Office as well.
If some of you can give me some good usefull advise I will be pleased :-))

Here's the situation:
Using pasteclip to insert a .bmp object into acad. Looks fine on the
screen,
but when it comes time to plot, the .bmp is shifted down 1/16". I tried
inverting
the page in the plot dialog box, but that only resulted in the .bmp
being shifted
upwards 1/16". Is the problem with my printer (Canon BJ 4550), or is
the problem
with the way acad handles OLE objects? If the latter, is there a patch
available.

budget here is the unstated issue.
Assuming small projects and low budget here's my advice.
P166 with 64 megs ram 10ms drive, 17" monitor (prefer NEC), calcomp
DB# 16 btn wireless digitizer or logitech inferred mouse (opinions
vary widely) don't get 13, get R14, HP 330 plotter (referbs are a
deal) with 12 megs ram, a backup device like tape, zip, or jazz), get
a minitower and keep it off the desk and floor, a ups is good too.
I'd save my money on a state of the art video card and get an add-on
driver instead. there are a few manufacturers to skip (read
dejanews.com).
This is one option, more budget would indicate ppro or mmx or ppro2
and more ram, 9ms drive 21" monitor in that order. also none of this
addresses the architectural add-on or other add-ons. IMHO the jury is
still out...Chief Beta Tester List

Maybe you've received no answer or response because no one who has
read your post has an answer. I certainly don't. The newsgroups are
cluttered enough with junk without having every body who reads your
post respond with "I don't know".
I too have posted several questions in various groups with no
response. I don't take it personal when I don't get an answer. I just
mark it up as one more unknown and move on.
As for your plotter problem, I don't have a solution for you. Without
knowing your budget restraints, wouldn't it be more worth your time to
invest in a newer plotter? Compared to pricing in 1983, they are a LOT
less expensive now.
Anyway, I hope you do find a solution to your problem. Good luck!

If you are trying to write an "mtext" editor, lisp is probably not going
to work. Especially if you want to write a backward compatiable
program. To my knowledge, some will show me wrong , you can not
detect the cursor keys with lisp. ie: You may want to move up one line
with the up arrow.

Hi Charles,
What's the value for scale? Try entering, !scale, at the AutoCAD
command prompt. If it returns NIL, there is your error. I noticed it
seems like you are using it before defining it. Is it defined by
another program/function first?
How about (SETQ scale(GETVAR "dimScale")) ?

How are you selecting the attrib? (entsel) with a whole lot of entnexting, or
(nentsel)? How are you initializing the OSMODE setting? Try setting it to pick by
INSert, and ACAD will give the text entity preference.

Brian,
You might want to check out Ravitz Software @ www.ravitz.com they are
the creators of PRINTGL and Printcad HP/GL plot/print software I think
it will handle a Mannesmann Tally plotter.
If it doesn't appear that it cannot, email them, they might be able to
locate the needed driver.
Hope this helps,

If I open a drawing with the splash screen Wizard, selection works normally.
If I open a drawing using any other button or method other than start-up wizard, no selection
works at all.
Have reinstalled the program, cleaned the registry. C'mon, what's going on?
