Melissa:
Your correct that experience counts if you want a job in archaeology.
If you haven't particpated in a field school, do so immediately and get
the professor/field manager to write letters of recommendations when
completed. If this is not a feasable way of obtaining experience, check
with the state archaeologist, state anthropology/archaeology
association, and local contractors to see if they have any entry level
or volunteer positions for upcoming or ongoing work. You may have to
volunteer first, but if you do a good job and can get a recommendation
there is hope for getting a paid field crew position later. Of course
this time of the year is a hard time to get a job in archaeology as the
field season is coming to a close. But try to make some contacts this
winter and you may be able to get in some work in next years season.
By the way, ignore the sexist pig from the UK. His response to your
inguiry was uncalled for!
