In a posting, Pat Tidwell remembered a POB Magazine article re the Survey
of India.  The article, "Surveying High in the Himalayas" appeared in the
February-March 1994 issue, pp. 48-53, and included a sidebar, "A Brief
History of the Survey of India."

I'm interested in being able to approximate geoid heights for areas 
outside the U.S. and its possessions.  Can anyone point me to a utility 
similar to GEOID96 (offered by NGS) with this capability?

I will be offering a course in spatial information technologies at my high
school next year (97/98). Units include Introduction to Computers, Maps 
and Map Analysis, Remote Sensing, GPS, GIS and an Integrated project. WE 
need the following equipment: 2-3 digitizing tablets and a data logging 
GPS ( have access to correction data ). If anybody has equipment that 
they are retiring or upgrading and would like to donate to a school 
please drop me an e-mail.
