We likewise use an SDR 33 and with proper coding and a little thought in the field we get nearly instant maps for our archaeological work. This includes detailed topographic maps and linework. Our mapping software in the lab includes Sokkia Map, Generic Cadd, Design Cad and Microstation. The coding on the SDR 33 is very easy to use. Generally a person who is green can be taught on both the total station and SDR 33 in about 2 1/2 days.Return to Top

Any hints >would be greatly appreciated Yes, I estimate about 80% of our topo mapping is done through proper data collection and feature codes. This depends a lot on your data reduction software and field experence. Remember the prism pole is your pen. We use the SDR33 data collector with FieldWorks and Microstation. Fieldworks will also be available as a windows based software and export to a dgn, dwg or dxf file. Most softwares will place blocks/cells, text and line work from field data, and some (ie: FieldWorks) can also create the DTM. Is there any shareware or freeware out there to automatically (90%) write legal descriptions by picking the appropriate entities in Autocad? Preferably the routine will write the data to a text file. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. (hchase@i1.net)Return to Top

I have a Dietzgen Theodolite thats about 20 years old but very nice condition. It has a bracket on the bottom of the telescope for EDM, but no internal compass. Q. If the work requires reference to magnetic bearings, is there some standard method of using an external compass as a reference? Are there attachments available? Q. Approximately how much is my unit worth? Q. Is service and/or manuals available? Q (last) Where could I find a used tripod?
