EXCELLENT advice! Now all we need is the discipline to follow through! I agree with the list with one major exception! The first listing should, in my opinion, be a glossary of surveying and mapping terms. Also, I find that Brinker and Wolf's book is more practical than the CURRENT version of Davis Foote, et.al.'s. Try going to my homepage http://smultron.com and then to http://smultron.com/source to download survey.zip It is an excellent shareware program (in my opinion) that will run in minimal hardware. As part of a project at Bradford University, a product was developed that allows non-contact low cost low accuracy 3 dimensional position measurement using a laser beam. Accuracy is +/- 3mm within 4m. It works beautifully for it's intended research activity. But we would like to know if anyone would find a use for this in a more general application ? e.m.french@brad.ac.ukReturn to Top
Hello All, We are based in Derby and looking for a CAD Designer/Draughter with experience of Curtain Walling and/or knowledge of Cladding. Alternatively, an Architectural or Mechanical Engineering background with the aptitude to learn new skills could prove just as useful. The work entails the detailed design and production of Construction and Manufacturing drawings utilising survey data from a 7 storey building. Please note, there could be two positions available ONE of which could provide training to the right, inexperienced but highly motivated, individual. One of these positions may require immediate availability whilst the other is due to commence mid January. Please reply to rts@enterprise.net We look forward to hearing from you, PalReturn to Top

I am astonished!! Within the last 2 years, I have been contacted by several mortgage companies and at least one appraiser, that has shown interest in retaining my survey company, only if I pay them for a "referral" fee. The fee asked for is approximately 10%-15% of the total survey charge. Call it a referral fee if you must - I call it a KICKBACK. have any of you in this newsgroup, heard of this? or do you participate in the referral fee. Each time I have adamantly refused to participate, I believe this is un-ethical and un-professional, and have so stated. Each time the companies that are inquiring, says it is quite common industry wide!! What's you take on this. Thanks, WayneReturn to Top

Hello, I am writing this mail in order to find some help, first of all, i would like to introduce the field I am working, it's in seismic and topographic lab, in computer dept., and I am looking for anything concerning file formatting, I mostly work with ascii files, the systems are unix (Intergraph) and windows (PCs), and I am interested by programs which converts any file (ascii) format to UKOOA P1/90, for exemple, if P1/84->P1/90.I am interesteed to by docs, faqs and sources (c, basic and delphi). So if there is any technicians or engineers who works in these fields or just interested about exchanging infos, if any ML exists, just let me know... Thank for any response, -- M.
