B.S. Writes: Current answer candidates: 1. Fraud 2. Incompetent science 3. Pathological science 4. A monumental scientific breakthrough Before item 4. can be considered, the first three items must be conclusively eliminated. No cf claim to date has passed that threshhold. If I may make an observation. CF has been thoroughly debunked in this ng. Every concievable permutation of items 1 2 and 3 have been trotted out, and yet with a few exceptions the only people absolutely convinced that CF is an illusion are those who have never performed or even seen an experiment. Do you think the Japanese who are funding P&F; have never read this ng? Please explain the continued funding for this research.Return to Top

To: >INTERNET:fusion@zorch.sf-bay.org; >INTERNET:afranzon@vnpbnes9.telecom.com I posted an advertisement for my home page. In response, afranzon@vnpbnes9.telecom.com (Anton) asked: What the hell is cold fusion??? The answer can be found on my home page, in the world wide web. That was the whole point of my message. This newsgroup is no place to find out anything about the subject. If you wish to learn what the hell cold fusion is, see my home page, subscribe to our magazine, and read the scientific literature. This may come as a shock to you, but governments (and other institutions) have been known to do "strange" things. Explaining government action would be an even greater accomplishment than explaining cf. Second, I'm sorry to be the first to tell you this, but for what it's worth (see above), word has it that the Japanese research is, shall we say, in the process of "winding down." Earlier, the Electric Power Research Institute in the US spent mega-bucks funding cf research before writing it off as a lost cause. That institutionally-funded research, also, gave the True Believers a glimmer of hope while it was in progress. The burden of proof continues to be on the True Believers. It is up to the proponents to prove their claims. Unlike a US court of law, cf is "guilty" until proven innocent. You may not like being placed in that position, but that is the way the science works. If that's too tough a standard for you, consider taking up social studies where "victimhood" is considered a positive attribute.Return to Top
I'm glad to see some interest in an experiment from this newsgroup--suggest you read the paper first since it will give you the data you need to do a quick "reasonableness" test on the claimed 1%. Then call Dr. Scott--he's listed in Oak Ridge, Tenn. as Charles D. Scott;he is very helpful and still interested in doing more experimentation now that he is retired. Good luck Dennis lettsReturn to Top
Ted, You left one out: 5. Is he or has he ever been a member of the Communist Party...? I think most of us know where this type of thought process leads and it's not to better science... Dennis letts Austin, TXReturn to Top
When exactly did CETI devices change from excess heat thingamabobs to transmutation doohickeys? Did Cravens forget the magic incantation for the 1.3 kilowatt runs or what? I would have thought that a year of practice would either result in increased amplification or increased reliability, but not a complete disappearance of the effect. I just skimmed the Vortex-L compedium and it doesn't look to me like any of the True Believers are voting with their wallets and buying one of the kits. (Could have missed it though --it was a fast skim.) --bksReturn to Top
