Thanks for the good clue ! I've been looking for the last month

Usually a contact to the original manufctures is the most effectve ways.
They can offer directly, without a dealer in between. These companies do
dismantel their systems often in behalf of vendors.
Perhaps a contact to companies like Siemens, GE, Brucker, Picker or other
might help.

Subject: EPR of rare earths
From: djcarey@maths.tcd.ie (David Carey)
Date: 22 Oct 1996 19:23:18 +0100
Hi all,
I wonder if anybody out there can answer this question about rare
earth magnetism. The susceptibilty of a rare earth ion is proportional
to the square of the magnetic moment which is
                         2 2
       (Lande g-value gJ) x (Bohr Magneton) x J (J+1)
where J is the ground state total angular momentum.
The above expression applies to ions in which the ground state is
(2J+1) degenerate in the absence of magnetic field. My question is how is this
expression is changed (if any) when the ion is placed in a crystal and the
crystal field removed the spin-orbit degeneracy.
Does anyone know if this is covered in books or atricles.
Thanks in advance
David

HELP!!! I want to be able to measure the earth's resonance and would
like to build my own resonance measuring device. Can you help?

Liquefaction of nitrogen(air) is accomplished by using Joule-Thomson
principle, i.e.
compressed air cools itself on adiabatic expansion. Successive removal
of heat at
each compression/expansion cycle and air is finally liquidified. Liquid
nitrogen
boils at 77 K , liquid oxygen at 90 K. They are separated by fractional
distillation.

Subject: high temp. nmr
From: papte@mtu.edu (Palash Apte)

Hi,
Iam building a high temp. probe and am using nichrome
wire as the heater element. I was not getting any signal
with the furnace in the NMR coil so I removed the furnace
(which included the nichromwe wire) and vola I saw a very
beautiful signal. As a check I took the nichrome wire close
to the magnet and it goot attracted i.e. it was definately
magnetic which would indicate loss of signal since it would distort
the magnetic field faced by my sample.
What I cant understand is that other people use nichrome wires
in threir high temp. nmr furnaces and they apparantly have no
problem seeing the signal. Is there something Iam missing here ?
Please enlighten . Any references would be very much
appreciated.
Iam looking at aluminum(27) signal from my samples and my
magnetic field is about 8.5 tesla.

Subject: Technological lock out
From: Melissa Schilling
Date: Thu, 24 Oct 1996 17:48:58 -0700
Hi,
I'm doing my dissertation research on technological lock out and I need to
develop a sample of firms which have been "locked out," but my own
industry experience/exposure is limited. I'm hoping to draw on your
diverse set of expertise. Can you think of a company (or companies) which
has been locked out of the market because either,
a) there is an established dominant design (single technology standard
which dominates the market) that the firm cannot produce (or is barred
from producing),
b) the industry is in the process of selecting a dominant design (there
are forces in the industry encouraging adoption of one standard
technology) and the firm's technology is not chosen, or,
c) the industry supports multiple product/technology designs, but the firm
is still unable to produce and/or competitively sell their technology?
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated! Please tell me the
company name and the product/technology, and which condition (a, b, or c)
you think it fits into. Thanks a lot for your help!
