The Power of Choice

Many customers in California now have the capability to choose an energy service provider for their electricity and natural gas needs instead of remaining with the utility.  The power of this choice can benefit you in many ways:

  • Flexibility in developing an energy strategy that’s right for your business,
  • Capacity to meet your defined price objectives,
  • Freedom to choose from a variety of products, prices, and terms, and
  • Ability to incorporate renewable energy into your energy mix

Read below to learn more about the available opportunities in California, or submit the form to the right and a World Energy representative will contact you without delay.

California Electricity

California Direct Access (DA) was officially suspended on September 20, 2001.  As of April 2007, former Direct Access customers who have been with the utility for at least three years may switch back to Direct Access by providing six months notice to their utility. Customers are required to select a supplier prior to notifying the utility.

Whether you are currently with an Electric Service Provider, or are considering returning to Direct Access, we can help you evaluate your options. World Energy will work with you to assess your current situation, your energy purchasing objectives and the current market conditions. Our market directors will then craft a transaction event to deliver the results you need.

Product Opportunities:

  • Fixed Price
  • Block & Index
  • Index

If you are not a Direct Access customer, we encourage you to work with the California Manufacturers and Technology Association and other groups to lobby the California Legislature to re-open the competitive electricity market in California.

California Natural Gas

Natural Gas in California has been deregulated since 1993. If you are with the Utility, your bill follows the ups and downs of market pricing.  However, today’s market and competitive supplier products offer opportunities to control your costs and manage your natural gas spend.

World Energy offers procurement options for both non-core and core customers. Our market directors will work with you to help develop your pricing strategy to take to market. We also provide risk management and hedging support for basis and index products.

Product Opportunities:

  • Basis
  • Fixed Price
  • NGI FOM Index

For both electricity and natural gas, the World Energy Exchange® is able to deliver the best available price time and again because it offers tremendous flexibility in terms of transaction methodologies and approaches to the market. This flexibility, coupled with advanced technology and a comprehensive end-to-end process, takes the guesswork and risk out of executing transactions.

Ultimately, the World Energy Exchange benefits industry players by delivering the best available price in an efficient, cost-effective, and compliant manner.

California Green Credits

On a federal level, the Obama Administration is actively pursuing a mandatory federal carbon cap-and-trade scheme. In 2006, California passed Assembly Bill 32, which commits the state to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. A cap-and-trade scheme will enter into force beginning January 1, 2012, to facilitate those reductions. The California Air Resources Board has determined that early action (such as the voluntary purchase of carbon offset credits) will be rewarded.

Companies can also invest in clean energy resources by buying Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to offset all or a portion of their power use. California has a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) that mandates that utilities include a percentage of renewable generation in their fuel mix, but companies can go above and beyond this requirement to make additional claims of environmental stewardship.

The World Green Exchange® provides an open, transparent platform where customers can transact with confidence to buy the credits that meet their corporate objectives.

Product Opportunities:

  • Renewable Energy Credits
  • Voluntary Carbon Offsets
