QD3D Model

MCadContour© allows you to display, contour, filter and calculate volumetrics of spatial data in a quick and efficient manner. It combines contouring, 3D imaging, CAD, database and GIS features in an affordable and easy to use package. MCadContour© is currently being used in Canada, USA, UK, Germany, China, Africa and Australia by governmental, mining, petroleum and environmental companies. Click in either model to manipulate it.

With MCadContour© you can create a presentation quality map with a few clicks of the mouse and then paste it into your report via the clipboard, Publish it and maintain dynamic links to other applications, save it as a Pict file for importing into your favourite drawing - CAD application or print it on any Apple compatible printer or plotter. No longer do users have to struggle with cryptic commands, creating additional data files or the steep learning curve required by other mapping software, just to generate a simple map.

• Imports multi column ASCII Text files (created by any word processor, spreadsheet or data base application). Data locations may be in local cartesian, UTM, longitude - latitude, Canadian Dominion Land Survey (DLS) or British Columbia's NTS coordinate systems. Maximum 2 billion data points with 32000 numeric values attached to each data point per map.
• Import or exports claim, lease, land or geographical boundary information, contours and grids.
• Allows you to filter data values using 1st through 10th order trend surface or residual analysis, apply mathematical functions to create isopachs, ratios or combinations and apply correction or conversion factors.
• Contour maps can be computer derived or manually created using the mouse. All contours are fully editable and can be smoothed, combined, split, deleted and reshaped simply by "pointing and clicking" with the mouse.
• Calculates volumetrics from contours, grids and within specific user defined areas. Volumes can be reported in cubic meter, feet, kilometer, mile, acre feet, barrel and other volumetric units.
• Generates user definable cartesian, UTM, longitude - latitude, Canadian DLS and Canadian NTS reference grids (for locating yourself on the map) and customised title blocks.
• Creates up to 10 cross sections from the data and/or contours in your map along user defined polygon or line objects.
• Illustrate and annotate your maps and cross sections using drawing and text tools.
• Imports up to 32,000 pict (both raster - bitmap or object) files that can be used as back drops or dissembled into their component objects (lines, polygons, text etc.). Picts can also be scaled, moved and rubber sheeted to account for different projection systems, distortion or rotation.
• Creates stacked, coloured, light source shaded, rotated and scaled images from your contours. 3D images can be saved in PICT, MiniCad 3D text format, DXF, Texture mapped QuickDraw 3D meta file format and as Quicktime movies for "real-time" playback. Here are example texture mapped QD3D models of Alberta (140K), Manitoba (165K) and Africa (360K). You'll need a PowerPC with 24 megs of Ram, Apple's QD3D extensions and a QD3D Viewer (Simple Text 1.3.1 works) to view and rotate the 3d model in realtime.
• Maps, cross sections and 3D images can be exported as Pict or MiniCad files, pasted to the clipboard or printed on any Apple compatible printer or plotter.
• Supports background processing, TrueType fonts, Balloon Help, Publish & Subscribe, Apple Events, Apple Scripting for unattended map creation, Drag & Drop batch file processing and Digitizing tablets.
• Minimum requirements are 68020 or later colour mac, minimum four megs of Ram, 1.44 Mb disk drive, hard drive (with 2 - 4 megs of free space) and System 6.07 or later. Recommended configuration is a PowerMac, eight or more megs of ram and system 7.5 or higher.
