Case Study: The Contest

May 3, 2011 at 11:35 am

The Situation

  • Fortune 500 customer working toward cost-effective 100% LEED certification, required an Energy Star score of 70. Needed to examine 3 problematic commercial buildings and evaluate another company’s analysis of the same buildings.

World Energy Insight

  • Using a Virtual Energy Audit, as well as consulting with client facility managers, energy models were constructed with utility data before modeling thousands of potential retrofit solutions. Outputs were optimized based on the Energy Star rating and a payback of <7 years.

Result

  • Identified $85K in no-cost annual operational savings, additional annual savings of $45K from physical retrofits. Net Present Value of all recommendations totaled $1M with only 1.7 year payback. Avoided $2MM in proposed spending which no longer made sense given payback horizon.
